Arrest

A man has been arrested at the L. F. Wade International Airport in relation to a firearm incident that took place around 3:40pm today. An investigation into the matter is underway.

The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) would like to congratulate the following officers for their promotion to Chief Inspector and Inspector respectively. Chief Inspector Nicholas Pedro Chief Inspector Nicholas Pedro is a Bermudian who joined the BPS straight from University in January 1993 (15 years of service), having attained a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science. He is married with two sons.



Arrests

Friday, January 18,2008

In the early hours of this morning the Bermuda Police Service executed a search warrant at a Pembroke residence. As a result, a 22 year old Pembroke man was arrested in connection with the attempted murders on Christmas Day & Boxing Day and the Boxing Day murder of Aquil Richardson; meantime, a 26 year old Pembroke man was arrested at the same residence on suspicion of possessing controlled drugs with intent to supply.

Commissioner George Jackson Good Afternoon Members of the Media. As many of you are aware there have been some very high profile incidents that have taken place in the last few months, an attempted murder on Christmas Day followed by the murder of Aquil Richardson on Boxing Day. This has highlighted the violence that is taking place in our community and brought to the forefront the growing social ills that are now plaguing every aspect of Bermuda’s way of life.

Three men are currently in custody assisting Police with their inquiries into the Christmas & Boxing Day shootings. Officers investigating these matters have received many calls from members of the public offering information regarding the shootings. As a result, several lines of inquiry are being followed up.

The autopsy on Aquil Richardson was conducted by an overseas forensic pathologist this weekend and has now been completed. We can now confirm that Mr. Richardson died as a result of gun shot wounds inflicted around 9pm Wednesday, December 26th in the Camp Hill, Southampton area and the murder investigation into his death continues.



E-mails, Texts Circulating Regarding Alleged Shooting

The Bermuda Police Service is aware of an abundance of e-mails and text messages that circulated throughout the community yesterday claiming that a shooting had taken place or was about to take place on Court Street in Pembroke. We would like to inform the public that no official reports of any such activity were made to the Police on Thursday. The Bermuda Police Service is asking those individuals who may be sending out similar mischievous messages via text and e-mail to cease immediately.



Firearm Incidents

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 30 year old Aquil Richardson of Southampton. Mr. Richardson was fatally shot around 9pm on Wednesday, December 26th in the Camp Hill, Southampton area, while a 25 year old Warwick man was also shot in the lower extremities. The Warwick man is currently in stable condition at KEMH. The Bermuda Police Service extends our sincere condolences to the family & friends of the deceased.



Firearm Incident

(Today is the second consecutive day on which we have received reports of a firearm being used in the Southampton area). The latest incidents are as follows: Around 9pm today, Police received a report of a shooting in the Camp Hill, Southampton area. Details are unclear at the moment, however a 30 year old Southampton man was fatally shot, while a 25 year old Warwick man was shot in the lower extremities and is presently receiving treatment at KEMH for his injury.



Sudden Death

Around 8:10 this morning, Police received a report of a sudden death at a Seamont Lane, Smith’s parish residence. It appears that the body of the deceased, a 44 year old Smith’s parish man, was found at the bottom of the home’s pool by a family member a short time earlier. The Bermuda Fire Service also attended the scene and assisted with draining the pool. The Smith’s parish man’s body was then removed and taken to KEMH via ambulance.

Missing Juvenile

14 year old Kayla DeSilva was last seen on Saturday, December 8th 2007. She is described as 5'2" tall and of Portuguese decent with brown hair with reddish ends. Anyone who knows the whereabouts of 14 year old Kayla DeSilva should contact the Child Victims Unit on 295-0011. The Bermuda Police Service would like to remind the public that aiding and abetting a minor is a crime and punishable under the law.



Press Conference Regarding A Threat To The Premier of Bermuda, the Hon. Dr. Ewart Brown Minister of Public Safety & Housing Lt.

  Good Morning. We do not normally comment on the security arrangements for the Premier of Bermuda, however, it is my regrettable task this morning to do so. In this season of rumours and speculation it is important for the public to be aware of a security matter concerning the Premier. Yesterday postal workers intercepted a package addressed to the Premier which caused some suspicion. Upon further examination it was confirmed that the package contained a threat leveled at the Premier. The Police have sufficient grounds to take the threat seriously and that a criminal offence has been committed. A Police investigation has been launched.



Ex Superintendent Larry Smith

Contrary to a published video feed that is presently appearing on the website YouTube by ex Superintendent Larry Smith, the matters that he is referring to in the case of the Crown vs. Flood and Madeiros were fully investigated and adjudicated in a court of law and as far as the Bermuda Police Service is concerned, that matter is officially closed.



Update - Investigation Into Theft of BHC Documents

Injury RTC

Monday, November 26,2007

Around 8:10 this morning, Police attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury on Somerset Road in Sandy’s parish, near the junction with Morgan Hill. It appears that a tractor trailer was traveling west on Somerset Road with a motorcycle traveling behind it when an unknown large vehicle traveling east collided with the westbound tractor trailer. As a result, debris flew back into the rider of the cycle, a 43 year old Sandy’s parish woman. She sustained facial injuries (cut to her right cheek).



Containers Confiscated

There is a clear trend that has been employed by unscrupulous individuals who have been shipping stolen goods with legitimate goods out of the island over the last few months. This has resulted in a number of containers being seized by Police in the last few days. The containers will be inspected and the contents will be verified. The Police will be working diligently to return the legitimate goods to their owners in a timely fashion. For information, contact the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit on 295-0011.



Missing Person

The Bermuda Police Service is asking for the public’s assistance in locating 23 year old Shannon Ford of Devonshire. Mr. Ford was last seen at his Friswells Road, Devonshire home around 8:45am on Friday. He is described as 6’ tall of slim build, with short black hair and dark brown eyes. Anyone with any information on the whereabouts of 23 year old Shannon Ford is encouraged to contact the Juvenile & Domestic Crime Unit on 295-0011.



Update – Missing Kayaker

Around 11:30 this morning, Marine Police received a report that Department of Fisheries personnel located the kayak that was reported overdue on the shoreline in the area of Clearwater (southern side of Coopers Island); however, there was no sign of the individual who rented the kayak. Police are continuing to appeal for anyone with any information on the individual who rented this kayak, a white male believed to be in his 20s, or anyone who may know of his whereabouts, to contact the Marine Police Unit on 299-4585.



Sudden Death

Around 11:45am Tuesday, Police received a report of the sudden death of 78 year old Patrick James Mayers of Smith’s parish. It appears that sometime after 7am on Sunday, Mr. Mayers went for his usual pedal cycle ride around the Harrington Sound Road area. However, apparently around 8am he was discovered near the junction of South Road and Tuckers Town Road in a semi-conscious state by two passing motorists in a truck who stopped to assist. It appeared that the 78 year old Smith’s parish man had fallen off his pedal cycle.
