TWO MEN ARRESTED FOR FIREARMS INCIDENT

As a result of ongoing Police investigations into illegal firearms on the island, shortly before 1pm on Friday 30th May 2008, armed Police officers arrested 2 men on suspicion of being in possession of a firearm. These investigations are being carried out by a joint team of officers headed by the Officer In Charge of the Serious Crime Unit, Chief Inspector Antoine Daniels. It is anticipated that both men, aged 28 and 27 of St. George’s and Pembroke parishes respectively will be appearing before the courts shortly.



Sudden Death

Chief Inspector Antoine Daniels Officer in Charge of Serious Crime Unit The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 14 year old Rhiana Moore of Devonshire. Her lifeless body was discovered in the area of Blue Hole Park just off Dolphin Drive. Officers were dispatched to the scene and located the body, and a short time later death was certified by a physician.

E-mails Circulating Regarding Alleged Inappropriate Interaction with Children

The Bermuda Police Service is aware of e-mails circulating around the island warning of an adult male allegedly interacting inappropriately with a group of school children. After the alleged incident, school officials strongly reminded all students not to interact with ‘strangers’ and informed all parents. On receiving word of this incident, Police officers contacted the school in question and a statement was later recorded from the Deputy Principal.



Incident Onboard Norwegian Dawn

The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is investigating an incident onboard the Norwegian Dawn cruise ship involving a female passenger, 46 year old Mindy Jordan, who went missing overboard in U.S. waters while the cruise ship was en route to Bermuda from New York City, U.S.A. The FBI is the lead investigative agency. As such, the Bermuda Police Service is providing support to the FBI. In addition, the Bermuda Government has pledged full cooperation and assistance to the U.S. authorities.

The Bermuda Police Service is asking for the public’s assistance in locating 15 year old Eric Thomas of Devonshire. Eric was last seen at his Watlington Lane, Devonshire residence between 5:30pm and 6pm on Saturday, April 26th 2008.

Eric was last seen at his Watlington Lane, Devonshire residence between 5:30pm and 6pm on Saturday, April 26th 2008. He is described as light skinned, approximately 5’7” tall with brown eyes and a light moustache.



‘Guardian’ Runs Aground While Rescuing Disabled Vessel

Around 8:30pm on Monday, the Marine Police Unit received a call from Bermuda Radio requesting assistance for ‘Sea Spirit’, a disabled 40 ft. motor yacht apparently bound for Bermuda, which was 30 miles west of the island. ‘Sea Spirit’ had been drifting for 12 days after its engines were disabled when rope/fishing netting became entangled in the vessel’s propeller. Additionally, the crew’s attempts to sail to Bermuda proved unsuccessful.

The Bermuda Police Service in conjunction with the Bermuda Road Safety Council and the Junior Minister for Transport will hold a joint press conference on Thursday, April 17th at 12:30pm in the Bermuda Police Association Boardroom at Police Headquarters, Prospect Devonshire to announce the resolutions which came out of their emergency meeting at 12 noon today. Update – Murder of Matthew Clarke

Detective Chief Inspector Antoine Daniels the officer in charge of Bermuda Police Service’s Serious Crime Unit reports that detectives are making steady progress into the unlawful killing of Matthew Clarke. Presently there are 3 men in Police custody; a 32 year old Southampton man, a 23 year old Pembroke man and a 17 year old Warwick man. A number of valuable witness statements have been recorded which have greatly assisted investigators in their efforts to resolve this tragic and unnecessary killing.



Road Fatalities

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 37 year old Kelvin Lamar Quarles of Warwick, who died as a result of a road traffic collision that took place at 8:29pm Thursday on Palmetto Road near the junction of Barkers Hill. Mr. Quarles was pronounced dead at 3:35pm on Saturday by an on call physician at KEMH. Police are still appealing for witnesses to this collision to contact PC Frederick Blunt on 295-0011.

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses in relation to the road traffic collision which occurred around 8:30pm Thursday at Barkers Hill round-a-bout. We are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who may have seen two motorcyclists riding with the victim prior to the collision. Any witnesses or anyone with any information is asked to contact PC Frederick Blunt or PC Colin Mill at the Roads Policing Unit on 299-4316 or 299-4388.



Serious Road Traffic Collision

Police responded to a report of a serious road traffic collision that took place on Thursday evening at 8:29pm. It appears that a 37 year old Warwick man was traveling east on Palmetto Road near the junction with Barker’s Hill when he came into contact with the round-a-bout and fell off his auxiliary cycle. He was taken to KEMH where he is listed in critical condition in ICU.



Sudden Death

At 3:41pm today, Police responded to a report of a non-responsive male found in a dwelling on North Shore Road in Pembroke, just east of Clarke’s Tuxedo Shop. The 31 year old Pembroke man was rushed to KEMH via ambulance where he was subsequently pronounced dead at 4:02pm by an on call physician at the hospital.



Death of David Raoul Ellis

It is with regret that the Bermuda Police Service confirms the death of 36 year old David Raoul Ellis, who died as a result of a road traffic collision that occurred on Tween Walls Road in Sandy's parish around 12:40am on Thursday, April 3rd. The 36 year old Sandy's parish man was pronounced dead at 2:53pm today at KEMH. The Bermuda Police Service extends its deepest sympathies to Mr. Ellis' family & friends.
