Witness Appeal - Fatal RTC & Road Traffic Advisory

The Bermuda Police Service is appealing for any witnesses to the fatal road traffic collision which occurred around 12:50am Tuesday on Middle Road in Warwick near the junction with Longford Road, which claimed the life of 29 year old Kevin Mooney (the son of former Chief Inspector Charles Mooney). Anyone with any information about this collision or who may have seen the victim prior to it is encouraged to contact the Roads Policing Unit on 295-0011. The Bermuda Police Service would like to remind the motoring public of the following:



Road Traffic Advisory

The Bermuda Police Service would like to advise the motoring public that there are traffic lights erected on Harbour Road, Paget in the Newstead area due to ongoing construction. As a result, motorists are encouraged to take alternate routes if possible, as some delays are expected during the afternoon/evening rush hour.



Firearms Recovered

The Bermuda Police Service can confirm that two firearms have been recovered. One person is in custody assisting Police with their inquiries and further inquiries are ongoing. A court appearance is anticipated in the near future.



Missing Juvenile

The Bermuda Police Service is asking for the public’s assistance in locating 16 year old Travis Malcolm Lowe. The teenager is described as light skinned, 5’3” tall weighing 110 pounds with black hair. He is known to frequent the Happy Valley Road Pembroke area and was last seen on Thursday, February 26th 2009. Anyone with any information on the whereabouts of Travis Malcolm Lowe is encouraged to contact the Child Victims Unit on 295-0011.



Firearm Incident

Around 2:50am on Monday, Police were on patrol in the Marsh Folly Road, Pembroke area when they were involved in a short pursuit of a motorcyclist in connection with a traffic offence. The rider lost control of the cycle near Rambling Lane but was not injured. The Police officers pursued the rider on foot and arrested him after a brief chase. The rider, a 30 year old Devonshire man, was found to be in possession of a loaded firearm. Inquiries into this incident are ongoing by the Serious & Organised Crime Unit.



Weekend Firearm Incident/Vehicle Fires on St. Monica’s Road

The Bermuda Police Service is continuing to appeal for witnesses to the firearm incident which occurred around 3:45am Saturday, February 21st and the vehicle fires which occurred around 3:25am Sunday, February 22nd.



Advisory Regarding Motorized Mini Bikes

The Bermuda Police Service is aware that motorized mini bikes are being used on the island’s roads, parks and on the railway trails particularly in the Khyber Pass and Ord Road, Warwick area and the Loyal Hill, Devonshire area. These vehicles are often ridden by young children; however these bikes are not licensed or insured.



Update - Missing Person Medhi David Yahi

The Bermuda Police Service would like to thank the members of the public who have come forward thus far and provided information to assist in locating missing French national Medhi David Yahi.The missing person report and subsequent search for Mr. Yahi was initiated after a member of the public found some of his personal effects on the beach at Chaplin Bay in Warwick around 9:10am on Monday.

The Bermuda Police Service is asking for the public’s assistance in locating 30 year old Mehdi David Yahi. Mr. Yahi, a French national visiting the island is described as a white male, approximately 5’7” tall of slim build, clean shaven with black hair.



Disturbance at Par-La-Ville Park

Around 3pm today, Police received a report of an assault at Par-La-Ville Park in Pembroke. Details about the incident are unclear at the moment; however, a 23 year old Devonshire man was arrested in connection with the matter. Inquiries are ongoing.



Suspicious Device

Around 2:45pm today, Police responded to a report of a suspicious explosive device at the Dellwood Middle School. It is believed that the device was a primitive, home made item made up of household chemicals. No one was injured and the student suspected of making the device is being dealt with by school officials and Police. Update - Sudden Death



Bomb Threat

The Bermuda Police Service responded to a report of a bomb threat that took place at the Fairmont Southampton at 10:46 this morning. After liaising with hotel management it was ascertained that a bomb threat came by way of e-mail. It was later determined that the threat was a hoax. A full investigation into this incident is underway.



2009 Roads Policing Initiatives

2008 will be remembered as one of the most tragic in recent years as far as road fatalities are concerned after 17 individuals lost their lives during that year on Bermuda’s roads. This is a clear indicator that we as a community must do things differently.



Incorrect Information in January 7th 2009 Bermuda Sun Re: Speed Cameras

In today’s Bermuda Sun (January 7th, 2009) there was a very detailed article as it relates to speed cameras in Bermuda. Firstly, the Bermuda Police Service (BPS) would like to make it abundantly clear that the clandestine Police source that was quoted in the Bermuda Sun does not speak on behalf of the organization and the details are not an accurate depiction of the issues surrounding the adoption of speed cameras on the island.



Sudden Death

Around 4:20pm today, Police received a report of a sudden death. On arrival officers observed the body of a man lying outside a Pitts Bay Road, Pembroke premises in an unresponsive state. The victim was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene by an on call physician. Inquiries are ongoing. Foul play has not been ruled out. No further information will be released until the next of kin has been notified. Funeral of Andrew Jackson

Fatal RTC

Around 12:45pm today, Police received a report of a serious road traffic collision on Cavendish Road in Pembroke near the junction with Hibiscus Lane. Details about how the collision occurred remain under investigation; however it appears that two motorcycles were traveling in opposite directions when they collided. The rider of one of the motorcycles, a 19 year old Pembroke man, was fatally injured. Inquiries into this incident are ongoing. No further information will be released until the next of kin have been notified.



Search for Omari Gordon Continues

Police continue to seek the arrest of Omari Gordon arising out of a shooting at Police in the early hours of Saturday, November 29th 2008. Information has reached the Police that he is still in hiding in Bermuda and also that he has fled overseas. Investigators remain open minded and although lookouts have been posted internationally, Police continue with inquiries locally. So far attempts by family, friends and his lawyer to get Mr. Gordon to come forward have failed. There is a strong likelihood that he is being assisted by others.



Injury RTC

Around 6:15pm on Friday, Police attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury on Cedar Avenue in Pembroke near the junction with Dundonald Street involving a truck and an auxiliary cycle. Details about how the collision occurred are unclear; however the rider of the auxiliary cycle, a 17 year old St. George's woman, sustained a contusion to her head. She was taken to KEMH via ambulance for treatment of her injury, which is not believed to be life threatening. Inquiries into this incident are underway.



Marine Flair Exercise

The Marine Police Unit would like to advise members of the public that they will be conducting a marine flare exercise on Friday 12th December between 11am & 12 noon in the Great Sound (weather permitting). Both hand held red locator flares and red distress parachute flares will be used during the exercise and will be launched from the Police vessel ‘Guardian’.
