Collision At Somerset Bridge

Around 4:40pm today, Police attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury at Somerset Bridge (Somerset Road in Sandys parish near the junction with Wharf Drive) involving a car, a motorcycle and an auxiliary cycle. It appears that the motorcycle and the auxiliary cycle were traveling east on Somerset Road and the car was traveling in the opposite direction when the driver of the car, a 40 year old Paget woman, lost control. As a result the car collided with the auxiliary cycle, a wall and the motorcycle. The rider of the auxiliary cycle, a 64 year old Sandys parish woman, sustained injures to both legs as well as her head.

Detective Chief Inspector Nicholas Pedro, Serious Crime Unit - The Bermuda Police Service is seeking the assistance of the public in their investigations into the callous shooting that took place on Friday 13th November 2009, at the Southside Cinema in St. George’s parish.
Members of the public will recall that around 11:30pm, a gunman took aim at a man and his pregnant girlfriend while they were out enjoying themselves at the movies.

Detective Chief Inspector Nicholas Pedro, Serious Crime Unit - The Bermuda Police Service is seeking the assistance of members of the public who may have information regarding the shooting of a 28 year old male from Pembroke parish around 6:45pm on Sunday 21st February, 2010. The shooting occurred on St. Monica’s Road at the junction with Government Gate.
Town Hall Meeting At CedarBridge

In keeping with the Bermuda Police Service Policing Plan 2010, a series of town hall meetings will take place during the year at venues in the eastern, central and western parishes to allow public feedback and discussion by residents of policing initiatives while emphasizing Police working in partnership with the community.
The first such meeting is scheduled to take place at Cedarbridge Academy on Wednesday, February 24th 2010 in the Cedarbridge cafeteria, starting promptly at 6pm. Residents of the central parishes (Paget, Pembroke & Devonshire) are invited to attend this forum to discuss the state of affairs in the area for the past six months and to hear the attending Police officers present the policing initiatives for the next six months.

Around 6:45pm Sunday, Police received a report of gunshots in the St. Monica’s Road, Pembroke area. The victim, a 28 year old Pembroke man, sustained gun shot wounds to his body and was taken to KEMH for treatment.
Reports of Men with Guns on Court Street

At 2:25pm today, Police responded to a report of men in possession of firearms in a parking lot on Court Street in Pembroke. This resulted in Police units converging on the location and a number of searches being carried out. As a result, three men are in custody assisting Police with this inquiry however, no firearms were recovered.
Witness Appeal - Shooting in Sandys parish

Police continue to appeal for witnesses to the shooting that occurred around 2:15am Saturday in the Kitchener Close, Sandys parish area. As a result the victim, a 23 year old Sandys parish man, received gun shot wounds to his body. He is currently in stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit at KEMH.
An investigation into the matter is ongoing by officers from the Serious Crime Unit under the direction of Chief Inspector Nick Pedro and a 31 year old Sandys parish man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

From the Government Department of Communication & Information (DCI) - The Emergency Measures Organisation (EMO) is advising the public that the process of reopening the Causeway Bridge is underway, and it is expected that traffic should be able to cross the bridge from 8.30 p.m. onward. However the Chairman of the EMO and Minister of Labour, Home Affairs and Housing, Sen. the Hon. Lt. Col. David Burch is "strongly urging" motorists particularly those on two wheeled vehicles to proceed with caution when traversing the bridge, as winds in the area remain elevated.

From the Government Department of Communication & Information (DCI) - Following an assessment of the current weather conditions, a decision has been made by the Department of Airport Operations (DAO) to extend the closure of the L.F. Wade International Airport until 8.00 p.m. this evening. This is as a result of severe wind conditions being experienced in the vicinity.

As a result and in the overwhelming interest of public safety, a decision has been made by the Emergency Measures Organisation (EMO) to close the Causeway Bridge effective immediately until 8.00 p.m. tonight.

The Bermuda Weather Service (BWS) anticipates that winds will gradually increase to between 40 – 50 knots, reaching hurricane force gusts by late afternoon and up to 9.00 p.m.

A few minutes after 2am today, Police responded to a report of gun shots being fired in the area of Kitchener Close in Sandys parish. As a result a 23 year old Sandys parish man was taken to KEMH where he is presently being treated for multiple gun shot wounds to his body.
An investigation has commenced with officers from the Serious Crime Unit under the direction of Chief Inspector Nick Pedro.
Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen anything suspicious to contact 295-0011 or the independent organization Crime Stoppers Bermuda on 800-8477.

From the Government Department of Communication & Information (DCI) - The Bermuda Weather Service (BWS) is advising that the Island can expect to experience severe and unsettled weather conditions tomorrow (Saturday).
According to the BWS it is anticipated that during the late afternoon hours of Saturday storm force winds are expected to be between 40-50 knots, with hurricane force gusts of up to 65 knots.

From the Government Department of Communication & Information (DCI) - The Emergency Measures Organisation (EMO) is advising the public that based on the latest weather update from the Bermuda Weather Service (BWS) the Causeway Bridge will remain closed until 8.00 p.m.
This is due to the fact that winds in the area continue to be extremely high. There have been sustained wind speeds of 45-55 knots and it is expected that there will be hurricane force gusts over the next several hours.

From the Government Department of Communication & Information (DCI) - Causeway will remain closed until 4.00 p.m. - The Emergency Measures Organisation (EMO) moved to update the public on the latest weather related developments.
According to the Bermuda Weather Service (BWS) the Island remains under a Storm Warning, which will remain in effect until late this afternoon.
As a result, the Island will continue to experience severe and unsettled weather conditions resulting in sustained 45-55 knots winds with gusts of around 70 knots.

From the Government Department of Communication & Information (DCI) - Ferry Service Suspended, Bus Service running normally - The Department of Marine and Ports has advised that due to the severe weather conditions, ferry service has been suspended until further notice. However, the Department of Public Transportation has advised that all bus service has resumed its normal schedule.

From the Government Department of Communication & Information (DCI) - Causeway remains closed - This morning, the Bermuda Weather Service (BWS) reminded that the Island continues to experience severe and unsettled weather conditions.
This has resulted in the Island being buffeted over night by hurricane force winds greater than 50 knots.
In the in the interest of public safety, a decision was made late yesterday by the Emergency Measures Organisation (EMO) to close the bridge.
