Reported Firearm Incidents in Pembroke

Around 1:15pm on Tuesday, Police responded to a reported firearm incident in the Overview Hill, Pembroke area. Officers attended the scene and conducted inquiries; however there were no reported injuries. An active investigation into this matter is underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information to contact the Serious Crime Unit on 299-8115 or the independent confidential Crime Stoppers Bermuda hotline on 800-8477.

Serious Injury RTC

Around 10:30pm on Tuesday, Police received a report of a serious single vehicle road traffic collision resulting in injury on Southside Road in St. George's near the Southside Family Bowl. It appears that a motorcycle was traveling along Southside Road when the rider, a 22 year old St. George’s man, lost control and collided with a sidewalk and a tree. The St. George’s man was injured and taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment where he is currently in stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit.



Man Sentenced to 10 Years Imprisonment for St. George's Shooting

The sentencing of Dwayne Signor today for his role in a shooting at a crowded St. George's club in the early morning hours of April 4th 2010 should serve as a strong deterrent for those that seek to undermine the traditionally peaceful way of life in Bermuda.In the last few months, of the five gun crimes that have been charged in the Supreme Court, all five have resulted in convictions. Mr. Signor is the second such person to be sentenced (with Mr. Cervio Cox having been sentenced to seven years for his role in a shooting on Court Street).



Results of Mould Testing at Hamilton & Somerset Police Stations

Assistant Commissioner of Police Paul Wright - On Friday, 8th October, 2010 I wrote on behalf of the Commissioner of Police to inform the Service about the rapid response mounted by Bermuda Water Consultants (BWC) that day to independently test for mould at both the Somerset and Hamilton Police stations. This action was undertaken following concerns raised in the media by two overseas consultants who were hired by a local law firm to conduct testing as part of a civil suit against Government. 



Police Week 2010 - Police Ball & Awards

Police Week 2010 came to a conclusion on Saturday, October 9th with the Police Ball held at the Fairmont Southampton Resort. The event was well attended by Police officers as well as invited guests from the Bermuda Regiment, Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service, Department of Corrections, DPPs office, Department of Immigration and the Service’s community partners.



Fatal RTC

Monday, October 11,2010

Around 4am on Monday, first responders were called out to a report of a single vehicle road traffic collision at the junction of Crow Lane and Corkscrew Hill in Pembroke. As a result they came upon a 31 year old Southampton man in a non-responsive state a few feet away from his motorcycle. He was later pronounced dead at the scene. No further information will be given until the next of kin has been notified. This marks the 10th fatal road traffic collision of 2010.



Response to Air Quality Concerns at Police Stations

Assistant Commissioner of Police Paul Wright – A court order was recently issued to allow two mould consultants hired by a local law firm to conduct tests at Hamilton and Somerset Police Stations in relation to a civil action brought against the Bermuda Government. Media reports today have highlighted the opinion of those consultants that the Hamilton Police Station is "so contaminated with mould that it is uninhabitable."

Around 3:45pm on Thursday, Police responded to a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury on North Shore Road in Devonshire near Barkers Hill involving a car and a motorcycle. Details are unclear at this time; however it appears that the motorcyclist and the car driver were injured. Both men were taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment. Traffic is being diverted away from the scene.



Commissioner Addresses Arrest of Keishon Smith

Allegations of Assault by Troy Smith Against Police Officer

Deputy Commissioner of Police Mike Jackman – After consideration of evidence by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, including the TASER DVD footage, photographs, statements from the attending officers as well as the alleged victim Mr. Troy Smith, the DPP has concluded that “there is insufficient evidence to justify criminal proceedings” against the accused officer. It was alleged the assault took place during the early morning hours of Sunday, July 4th 2010 when officers attended a reported domestic incident at a Pembroke residence and had cause to arrest Mr. Smith.

Around 5:30pm on Thursday, Police responded to a confirmed firearm incident that took place in the St. Monica’s Road, Pembroke area. A 29 year old man was injured and taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment. His injuries are believed to be serious. Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information about this incident to contact the Serious Crime Unit on 295-0011. Confirmed & Reported Firearm Incident in Pembroke

Around 11:30am on Thursday, Police responded to a confirmed firearm incident that took place on North Shore Road in the area of First Church of God in Pembroke. It appears that individuals on a motorcycle shot at a car; however, no one was injured.There was also a reported firearm incident that took place on Court Street in Pembroke around 11:40am Thursday. It appears that men on a motorcycle brandished what is believed to be a firearm; however again, no one was injured. 



Witness Appeal – Confirmed Firearm Incident in Pembroke

Detective Chief Inspector Nicholas Pedro, Officer in Charge of the Serious Crime Unit - Around 5:30pm on Monday 20th September, 2010 Police Officers responded to a confirmed firearm incident on Friswells Road in Pembroke. On arrival in the area it was ascertained that two men aged 22 years old had been injured. Their injuries are described as non-life threatening.
