Police Preparedness

Joint Statement - At the weekly meeting held today, Monday May 23rd, 2011 between the Governor Sir Richard Gozney, the Minister of National Security the Hon. Wayne Perinchief, Senator Jonathan Smith and the senior command of the Bermuda Police Service a high level briefing took place highlighting the extensive preparation for policing tonight as well as for the May 24th Bermuda Day holiday. The briefing emphasized the measures put in place to deal with any potential trouble that may occur.



Confirmed Firearm Incident In Devonshire

Around 12:35pm on Monday, Police responded to a confirmed firearm incident in the Palmetto Road, Devonshire area. A 48 year old man and a 39 year old man received gunshot wounds and were taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment. The extent of their injuries is unknown at this time. Police have cordoned off the scene and an active investigation into this incident is underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information to contact the Serious Crime Unit on 295-0011 or the independent, confidential Crime Stoppers Bermuda hotline on 800-8477.



Policing For Bermuda Day

Superintendent Martin Weekes - The Bermuda Police Service takes this opportunity to advise the public on a number of matters to ensure a peaceful and safe time during this year’s Bermuda Day holiday weekend; the actual Bermuda Day holiday will of course be celebrated on Tuesday, May 24th.



Police & Department of Corrections Sign MOU

Today the Bermuda Police Service and the Bermuda Department of Corrections signed a Memorandum of Understanding. This document simply updates an already established agreement between the two services. In a low key affair, Acting Commissioner Michael Jackman and Commissioner of Corrections Edward Lamb signed the agreement which will take effect today May 12, 2011.



Injury RTC Berry Hill Road, Paget Area

Around 4:20pm on Wednesday, Police and first responders attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury at the junction of Crow Lane (north round-a-bout) and Berry Hill Road in Paget involving a car and an auxiliary cycle. Details about how the collision occurred are unclear at this time; however the auxiliary cycle rider, a 16 year old boy was injured. He sustained arm & leg injuries which are not considered life threatening.



Update – Jason Smith Murder Investigation

The Bermuda Police Service is continuing to appeal for witnesses or anyone with any information regarding the murder of 22 year old Jason Smith, which occurred around 3:50am Sunday, May 1st 2011 in the Overview Hill, Pembroke area. In particular detectives are interested in speaking with any persons that saw or may have information about a suspicious vehicle, person(s) or activity in the area of Overview Hill, Vaucrossons Crescent and Mount Hill between the hours of 2am and 5am on Sunday, May 1st 2011.



Medical Emergency

Around 11am on Tuesday, Police responded to a reported medical emergency at a St. George’s boatyard. It appears that the victim, a 75 year old Hamilton parish man, was cleaning a boat on dry dock when he fell, sustaining a head injury. The Hamilton parish man was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment. Inquiries into this incident are underway.



Clarification: A D & T Excavation

Following the Magistrates’ Court appearance on Friday, May 6th 2011 by two former employees of Works & Engineering the Bermuda Police Service wishes to clarify the following; neither Mr. Allan Foote of A D & T Excavation nor the company A D & T Excavation is under investigation.



Sudden Death of Denise Evans-Wilkinson

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the identity of the female victim who was removed from the waters near Mills Creek, Pembroke on Friday 29th April 2011, as 45 year old Denise Evans-Wilkinson of Pembroke Parish.



Murder of Jason Smith

Detective Superintendent Antoine Daniels - At 3:50am on Sunday morning, Police officers responded to a report of a man having been shot and injured near a residence on Overview Hill in Pembroke Parish. Police responded immediately to this firearms report and on arrival at the scene discovered 22 year old Jason Smith of Warwick Parish who had sustained a number of what appeared to be gunshot wounds to his body. First aid was administered and he was conveyed to hospital by ambulance where he later succumbed to his injuries.



Fatal Shooting in Pembroke

Assistant Commissioner of Police David Mirfield - Around 3:50am Sunday, May 1st 2011 Police and first responders attended a report of a confirmed firearm incident in the North Shore Road, Overview Hill Pembroke area. On arrival it was ascertained that a 22 year old man was shot. He was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance where he died as a result of his injuries. Officers from the Forensic Support Unit and the Serious Crime Unit are currently processing the scene. Detectives are also working closely with the victim’s family. Initial inquiries suggest that the victim may not have been the intended target.



Court Appearance For Attempted Murder & Firearm Offences

Detective Chief Inspector Nicholas Pedro, Officer In Charge of the Serious Crime Unit - A 24 year old Paget man appeared in Magistrates’ Court today on charges of Attempted Murder & Firearms offences. Royunde Cyrus Stevens was charged with the Attempted Murder of a 16 year old male on 25th March, 2011 in Rambling Lane, Pembroke. Detectives from the Serious Crime Unit have been investigating this incident since it occurred and the charges are the product of efforts by members of the Bermuda Police Service.



Policing For Easter Weekend

The upcoming Good Friday Holiday and the Easter Weekend will see a number of events and festive activities at various locations across the Island. The Bermuda Police Service takes this opportunity to share with the public some information regarding the policing plan for the weekend with the intent to encourage members of the public to partner with police to make these events safe.



Murder of David Clarke

The members of the Bermuda Police Service would like to extend their heartfelt condolences to the friends & family of Mr. David Clarke who is now tragically the fourth young Bermudian man to lose his life to gunfire this year. Mr. Clarke was a 26 year old single man in the prime of his life.



Reported Firearm Incident in Southampton

Police responded to a report of an unconfirmed firearm incident that took place around 11:55pm on Sunday on Horseshoe Road in the area of Southampton Rangers Sports Club. Police are investigating shots fired in that area. No one was injured and police are asking for anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously to contact police on 295-0011 or the independent, confidential Crime Stoppers Bermuda hotline on 800-8477.



Fatal Shooting in Pembroke

Police responded to a report of a confirmed firearm incident that took place around 10:20pm on Sunday at the junction of North Shore Road and Band Room Lane in Pembroke. As a result a 26 year old Pembroke man received gun shot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. No further information will be given until the next of kin has been notified. Anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area is asked to contact the Serious Crime Unit on 295-0011 or the independent, confidential Crime Stoppers Bermuda hotline on 800-8477.



Injury RTC on Berry Hill Road

Around 8:30am on Monday, April 11th Police attended an apparent single vehicle road traffic collision resulting in injury on Berry Hill Road in Paget, near the junction with Tee Street in Devonshire. The Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service also attended the scene. Details about how the collision occurred are unclear at this time; however a car was found overturned on Berry Hill Road. A 38 year old woman had to be extricated from the car by emergency personnel.

Police responded to a report of a road traffic collision that took place at 6pm on Middle Road and Parsons Lane in Devonshire. As a result a 49 year old Devonshire man was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he was subsequently pronounced dead. No further information will be given until the next of kin has been notified.



Murder of Randy Robinson

Fatal Shooting on Border Lane

Around 8:25pm on Thursday, March 31st 2011 police responded to a report of a confirmed firearm incident that took place on Border Lane in Devonshire. On police arrival it was ascertained that a 22 year old Devonshire man was shot and subsequently succumbed to his injuries. No further information will be given until the next of kin has been notified.
