The Bermuda Police Service is appealing for the public’s assistance in locating 40 year old Kamilah Muhammad. Ms. Muhammad is described as approximately 5’2” tall, brown skinned of heavy build, weighing around 200 pounds, with red & black hair. She was last seen wearing a blue T-shirt, white pants, a blue jacket and a navy coloured backpack around 6pm Sunday, September 25th.



Missing Juvenile Devonte' Simmons Located

The Bermuda Police Service would like to thank the public for their assistance in locating 14 year old Devonte’ Simmons. He returned this evening and is safe and well. However, police are still appealing for anyone with any information regarding the whereabouts of 15 year old Leshun Wolffe to contact the Vulnerable Persons Unit on 295-0011.

Missing Juvenile: Devonte’ Simmons - The Bermuda Police Service is appealing for the public’s assistance in locating 14 year old Devonte’ Simmons [pictured right]. The teenager is described as approximately 5’7” tall, brown skinned with a close haircut, weighing 130 pounds. He has both ears pierced and was last seen wearing blue jeans and black sneakers in the North Street, Pembroke area on Friday, September 23rd.



Eastern CAT Assist With KBB Marine Clean-Up

Members of the Eastern Community Action Team took part in the annual Keep Bermuda Beautiful (KBB) Marine Clean-Up from 9am to 12 noon on Saturday, September 24th. The police officers joined with members of the public and Public Works personnel [click photo to enlarge] to clean up the Tobacco Bay, St. George’s area. Trash was recovered from the shoreline area and also along Coot Pond Road. More photos of the clean-up.



Sentencing of Antonio Myers

The Bermuda Police Service notes the sentence of the Supreme Court in the matter of R vs. Antonio Myers, for the murder of Mr. Kumi Harford. The public will recall that Mr. Harford was targeted by gunmen as he sat in his car near his home on Mission Lane, Pembroke, on 5th December, 2009.  Following a lengthy trial, Mr. Myers was found guilty of the murder of Mr. Harford and the use of a firearm in that murder.



Counterfeit Currency Advisory

The Bermuda Police Service Financial Crime Unit is continuing to advise the public to remain vigilant regarding counterfeit currency. The counterfeit Bermuda $100 notes [shown bottom right, click photo to enlarge] currently making the rounds are the older notes – not the new ones. Merchants are reminded to ensure their employees are aware of the importance of taking a few seconds to examine the money they are taking in, especially the larger denominations. Please check all currency for common security features which include:



Update: Sudden Death of 79 Year Old American Visitor

The Bermuda Police Service is continuing the investigation into the death of 79 year old Joe Alston of Statesboro Georgia, U.S.A. The general findings of an autopsy conducted this week is that death appears to have been caused by drowning, but that will be for the Coroner to decide ultimately. Accordingly, a file is now being prepared for review by the Coroner’s office. The Bermuda Police Service extends condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Alston.



Update: Sudden Death of Infant

The autopsy has concluded that the death of the 18 month old male child was not through natural causes. As a result, a file is being prepared for review by the DPP. No further comment can be made at this time as the investigation into the matter is ongoing.



Police Cadet Recruitment

The Bermuda Police Service is currently recruiting young people interested in joining the Police Cadet Programme. Candidates must: be between 16 and 21 years old. be in good physical and mental health. pass the Police Service vetting process including the Initial Recruitment Test, security checks, medical tests, a home visit and the Assessment Board.



Sudden Death of Infant

The Bermuda Police Service is investigating the sudden death of an 18 month old male child who was at a residential day care facility on Friday 9th September, when he was found in an unresponsive state. The child was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at about 2:25pm by doctors, who tried to resuscitate him without success. An autopsy has been carried out by a specialist pediatric forensic pathologist from Toronto, Canada and those results have been provided to the parents of the young child.

Firearms Recovered

Acting on intelligence, Bermuda Police Service officers executed a search warrant at 2:30pm today (Thursday, September 8th) at a residence on Friswells Road in Devonshire. As a result, two firearms and a quantity of ammunition were seized. A quantity of controlled drug was also recovered. A man is in custody as a result of the seizure of these weapons and controlled drug. The Bermuda Police Service continues to encourage the public to assist in making Bermuda safer by providing any information they may have that could lead to the recovery of illegal firearms or drugs.



Officers Promote Positive Interaction With Students

This afternoon, uniform police officers including officers from the Community Action Teams are visiting the Island’s two public high schools as well as the Washington Street bus terminal in the City of Hamilton to promote positive interactions between officers and students. This example of proactive community policing is intended to create positive relationships with the students as they return to school this week that will last throughout the school year and as a result, reduce the likelihood of any incidents occurring at either high school or the main bus terminal.



Investigation into Graveyard Vandalism

Around 11am on Thursday, August 25th police responded to an incident at the St. John’s Church graveyard in Pembroke. It appears that seven graves were disturbed by an unknown individual or individuals. Nothing was taken from any of the graves. Due to the sensitive nature of the situation it was not immediately reported by police. Inquiries into this matter are ongoing and detectives are appealing for anyone with any information to contact the main police number on 295-0011.



8th Annual Hurricane Fabian Memorial

Today at 2pm the 8th anniversary of Hurricane Fabian and the four lives lost during the storm was commemorated. In tribute, a small group gathered at the Memorial Bench at Kindley Field Park to mark the occasion. Following a moment of silence, the lives of those lost were fondly remembered before yellow flowers were thrown into the ocean.



Frog Lane Collision

Around 7:30pm on Monday, September 5th police and first responders attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury on Frog Lane in Devonshire. Details about the collision are unclear at this time; however it appears that it involved at least two vehicles. The extent of the injuries to those involved is currently unknown but not believed to be life threatening. A 34 year old man was arrested on suspicion of impaired driving at the scene. A section of Frog Lane was cordoned off for approximately two hours as officers examined the collision area. Inquiries into this incident are ongoing.



Man Arrested As Murder Investigation Continues

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the identity of the sixty six year old female found murdered in her Berry Hill, Paget home yesterday as Ms. Ida James. A well-known and liked individual, Ms. James lived alone at her residence, and was found in an unresponsive state by a member of the public early yesterday morning. Detectives from the Bermuda Police Service Serious Crime Unit are continuing their investigation into the murder of sixty six year old Ms. Ida James.



Murder Investigation Commenced By Police

Detectives from the Bermuda Police Service Serious Crime Unit are investigating the death of a woman at a residence on Berry Hill Road, Paget. At about 8:30am this morning, an off duty police officer was flagged down by a member of the public, and alerted to the presence of an unresponsive female inside a residence. Assistance was immediately sought, and EMTs from King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and an on call doctor attended the residence. Death was certified by the on call doctor at the scene.
