Shooting in Warwick

Around 8:20pm on Monday, police received reports of a shooting on Middle Road in Warwick in the vicinity of Longford Road. Officers immediately attended the area and found a 21 year old man had been shot. The victim was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment of his injuries, which are not believed to be life threatening at this time.
Serious Collision in Devonshire

Around 12:25am on Sunday, police responded to a reported serious single vehicle road traffic collision on South Road in Devonshire near the junction with Devon Heights Road. It appears that a rental cycle was traveling along South Road when it collided with a wall and a utility pole. The rental cycle was extensively damaged as a result.
The rider, a 27 year old American man, sustained serious head injuries and was treated by EMTs at the scene before being taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for further medical care. At last check the victim, a contract worker, was listed in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit.
Review Team Lends Investigative Assistance to Unsolved Cases

The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) has formed a review team to help deal with serious crime investigations, having secured support and funding from the Ministry of National Security. The team of six is comprised of two recently retired BPS detectives and four retired detectives from the UK. The six officers bring a combined total of over 200 years of policing experience to the BPS. Mr. Carlton Adams, MBE, is well known to the local community having retired as an Assistant Commissioner in 2008 after a forty year career, mostly served in the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Witness Appeal: Shayne Adderley Fatal Collision

Police are continuing to appeal for any witnesses to the collision that claimed the life of 21 year old Shayne Adderley which occurred on Middle Road in Southampton near the junction with Camp Hill around 1:45am Saturday, October 8th when the motorcycle Mr. Adderley was riding collided with a taxi. The investigation into this matter is ongoing and any witnesses or anyone with any information is encouraged to contact PC Timothy Evelyn on 295-0011.
Local Businesses Advised To Be Vigilant For Counterfeit Currency

There continues to be a noticeable amount of counterfeit Bermuda currency currently in circulation, particularly $100 and $50 notes.
Local merchants in particular are once again reminded to ensure that their employees are aware of the importance of taking a few seconds to scrutinize the money they are taking in, especially the larger denominations. If counterfeit cash is detected during a transaction, staff receiving the fake money should hold on to it, note the description of the individual who tendered it and contact police immediately.
Man Arrested Following Assault on Police

Around 9pm on Friday, October 14th police responded to a reported domestic incident at a St. Mary’s Road, Warwick residence. While at the scene, officers became aware that an outstanding warrant was in effect for one of the individuals involved, a 27 year old Warwick man. When the officers informed the Warwick man of the outstanding warrant and placed him under arrest, he fled on foot.

Around 12:40am on Saturday, police and first responders attended a reported single vehicle road traffic collision resulting in injury on South Road in Warwick near the junction with Marley Beach Lane. It appears that a car was traveling along South Road when the vehicle went off the road, rolled over and ended up in a nearby field. The driver of the car, a 23 year old St. George’s man, was initially trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service personnel.
Missing Juvenile: Daeshon Warner

The Bermuda Police Service is asking for the public’s assistance in locating 15 year old Daeshon Warner. The teenager was last seen around 5pm Wednesday, October 12th and is described as 5’3” tall with short black hair. He has an earring in his left ear, a scar under his right eye and was last seen wearing blue jeans, a black jacket and white sneakers.

Detective Chief Inspector Nicholas Pedro - Two men, Pelealkhai Williams, aged 22, and Jonathan Dill, aged 28, appeared in Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 13th October 2011 charged on indictment in relation to the shooting of a man outside the Gravity Nightclub in the early hours of Saturday 8th October.
Williams and Dill were jointly charged with ‘Conspiracy to Commit Murder’ & ‘Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence Using a Firearm’. Williams was additionally charged with ‘Possession of a Prohibited Weapon (Firearm)’.

Detective Chief Inspector Nicholas Pedro - The Bermuda Police Service - Serious Crime Unit is continuing its investigations into a number of firearms incidents that took place over the past 10 days. The Service is working on the theory that all four incidents are connected. Two of the incidents resulted in relatively minor injuries and two of the intended victims were fortunate to escape without harm.

Around 3:20am on Saturday, October 8th police and first responders attended a confirmed firearm incident in the North Shore Road, Devonshire area. A Devonshire man in his 20s sustained a non-life threatening gunshot wound and was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment. As a result, officers cordoned off the scene and conducted a thorough search of the area which resulted in items of interest being recovered which will be forensically examined.

At 11am on Friday, October 7th the Hamilton Police Station was officially opened by H.E. the Governor Sir Richard Gozney and the Minister for National Security the Hon. Wayne Perinchief. Also on hand were Commissioner of Police Michael DeSilva, Deputy Commissioner Mike Jackman, Assistant Commissioners Paul Wright and David Mirfield as well as other senior police officers and members of the media.

A Pembroke man in his 20s is currently in custody in connection with the confirmed firearm incident that occurred around 2:20pm on Wednesday, October 5th at South Round-a-bout in Paget.
Detectives are reviewing CCTV footage from the area and are interested in speaking with any members of the public who were in the vicinity, particularly anyone who was traveling along Trimingham Road or South Road in Paget at the time or anyone that may have been negotiating the round-a-bout during the incident.

As part of Police Week 2011, seven young people were chosen to be ‘Commissioners for a Day’ which was the prize for winning an annual essay and art competition held by the Bermuda Police Service for primary and middle school students across the island. As Police Week 2011’s theme is ‘Policing in the Community’ the students were asked to produce an essay or piece of artwork that captured their interpretation of police officers working in the community. Confirmed Firearm Incident at South Round-A-Bout

Around 2:20pm on Wednesday, police responded to a confirmed firearm incident at South Round-a-bout near the junction of South Road and Trimingham Road in Paget. Forensic evidence found in the area suggested that a firearm had been discharged; however no one has reported being injured. An active investigation into this incident is underway. Traffic was initially diverted away from the area while investigators examined the scene, but traffic has since been allowed to flow normally.

Despite inclement weather that cancelled the police dynamic displays, the Bermuda Police Service held a Seniors Tea at 12 noon on Tuesday, October 4th as part of the Police Week 2011 celebrations. The event recognizing the island’s senior citizens was well attended and those gathered were served by police staff while enjoying food, music by Mr. Gene Steede and his band, as well as prizes won by correctly answering trivia questions from Station Duty Officer Linda Mienzer.

Each year during Police Week an awards ceremony is held, recognizing police officers, support staff, our community partners and members of the public for their exemplary actions during the year. This year's event was well attended by dignitaries including H.E. the Governor Sir Richard Gozney, Minister of National Security the Hon. Wayne Perinchief, Lt. Col. Brian Gonsalves, Commanding Officer of the Bermuda Regiment, Lt. Col. Edward Lamb, Commissioner of Corrections and the Police Chaplain Dr. Bishop Duncan.

On Sunday, October 2nd at 10am an inter faith service was held at the Police Recreation Club in Prospect, Devonshire. The event, designed to recognize the diverse religious beliefs of officers and support staff of the Bermuda Police Service, was well attended by police officers, their families and dignitaries such as the Deputy Governor David Arkley, the Premier, the Hon. Paula Cox, Minister of National Security the Hon. Wayne Perinchief, U.S. Consul General Grace Shelton and Chief Justice Richard Ground.

Police Week 2011 started at 10am on Saturday, October 1st with the Police Gymkhana. The popular community event saw a good turnout despite the predicted weather with the approach of Hurricane Ophelia. Some young people and their parents even arrived before 10am to get an early start to the festivities.
