Priorities When Officially Informing Next of Kin
Thursday, November 10,2011
Assistant Commissioner of Police David Mirfield - The Bermuda Police Service takes the role of informing next of kin that their loved one has died very seriously. Confirming death and positively identifying the victim must take place before efforts are made to contact an immediate family member at the earliest possible opportunity. If the next of kin is located overseas, notification may take longer. Our intention in this process is to provide accurate information to the victim’s next of kin in a sensitive and timely manner. Only when the police are satisfied that the next of kin have been informed, and the identity of the person confirmed, will the police make the name public.

Press Conference: Policing For Halloween

Commissioner of Police Michael DeSilva - Good afternoon. I have called this press conference today to advise the public on the proactive policing and enforcement measures the Bermuda Police Service will be taking this weekend in the lead-up to Halloween on Monday. I thought it was important for me to make a public address because there is likely to be some fear in the community arising from the shooting that occurred in Warwick on Monday night, and the four shootings that were reported during the first week of October.
Let me start with a very brief update on the progress of the shootings. You may be aware that we arrested three men in connection with the injury shooting at a North Shore night club on the 8th October: two men have been charged and are remanded in custody. Yesterday we arrested three more people: two men were arrested in connection with Monday’s injury shooting; and one man was arrested in connection with the shooting incident at the South Roundabout on 5th October. That now brings the total number of arrests to nine in connection with these five incidents.

This site asks for the recipient’s user ID and password. When the information is given, the log in fails and it asks the user to sign in a second time, which also fails. The user is then re-directed to the actual Butterfield Bank website; but by that time their user ID and password has been compromised.
