Man Reported Missing At Sea

Around 7:10pm on Sunday, March 18th police received a report of a man missing at sea. There are limited details at this time; however it appears that two men were out fishing earlier in the Cooper’s Island, St. George’s area. One of the men returned to shore safely around 6:30pm; however the other, 41 year old Donald Tucker, is still unaccounted for. The Marine Police are currently searching the Cooper’s Island area waters for Mr. Tucker and the Maritime Operations Centre Bermuda Radio have appealed for any vessels in the area to assist in locating the missing individual.



Robbery at Serpentine Liquors

Around 4:30pm on Thursday, March 15th police responded to a reported robbery at Serpentine Liquors on Serpentine Road in Pembroke. It appears that two suspects were involved; one brandishing what appeared to be a firearm. Both suspects escaped on a light coloured motorcycle with a quantity of cash. No one was injured. Officers immediately conducted an area search for the offenders. Officers from the Serious Crime Unit also attended and are continuing inquiries into the incident.



Suspected Burglar Arrested, Suspected Stolen Property Recovered

The Bermuda Police Service would like to commend another vigilant member of the public who reported suspicious activity in their neighbourhood on Wednesday, March 14th. As a result, around 9:30am that day officers promptly responded to a reported burglary at a Horseshoe Road, Southampton residence. Following a search of the surrounding area by officers, a male was arrested on suspicion of burglary. In addition, suspected stolen property was subsequently recovered. The alleged burglar remains in police custody pending further inquiries.



25 Years for Man Convicted of Attempted Murder, Firearms Offences

The Bermuda Police Service would like to acknowledge the sentence meted out by the Supreme Court today, in respect of Anwar Muhammad who was previously convicted of Attempted Murder & Firearms offences. The sentence of 25 years (15 years and 10 years respectively, to run consecutively) reflects the serious nature of the gang violence that has been plaguing the Island for the past 3 years.



Counterfeit Currency Advisory

The Bermuda Police Service has noticed an increase in the number of counterfeit Bermuda notes being reported to police in the past few days. Businesses are asked to remind their staff to be especially vigilant when accepting larger denominations, in particular the old style Bermuda $50 and $100 notes.



Court Appearance As Investigations Into Recent Robberies Continue

Detectives from the Serious Crime Unit have been continuing their investigations into the robberies that occurred at a Southampton residence near The Reefs property and at Lolly’s Well Road, Smiths on Monday 5th March, 2012. On Friday 9th March, a 21 year old Hamilton Parish male was arrested in possession of some of the stolen property from the Southampton robbery. The Bermuda Police Service presented a case file to the Department of Public Prosecutions and a charge of handling stolen property was approved. The man appeared in Magistrates Court this morning as a result.



Convictions for Money Laundering After Multi-Agency Investigation

The Bermuda Police Service learned today of the verdict in a significant and complex money laundering case being tried in St. Vincent. This five year investigation was led by Detective Inspector Grant Tomkins of the Bermuda Police Service Financial Crime Unit that stemmed from a cash seizure off the sailboat ‘Jo-Tobin.’ The vessel was skippered by Bermudian Winston Robinson, which, having left Bermuda three weeks earlier, was intercepted entering St. Vincent by their Coastguard in April 2008.



Seven Join Bermuda Reserve Police

At a 7pm ceremony attended by family, friends and colleagues held at Police Headquarters in Prospect Devonshire on Wednesday, March 7th, seven recruits joined the Bermuda Reserve Police as Reserve Constables. The six men and one woman were sworn in by Reserve Deputy Commandant Cannoth Roberts. [Click photo to enlarge].



Two Suspected Burglars Arrested

The Bermuda Police Service would like to commend a vigilant member of the public who reported suspicious activity in their neighbourhood on Wednesday, March 7th. As a result, around 2:30pm that day officers in the area promptly responded to the reported burglary at a Slippery Hill, St. George’s residence and arrested two males at the scene. In addition, suspected stolen property was recovered from the alleged burglars. They remain in police custody pending further inquiries.



Increase in Acquisitive Crime

Acting Superintendent Nicholas Pedro, Officer in Charge: Serious Crime Division - The Bermuda Police Service is keen to raise awareness about an increase in what we term ‘acquisitive’ crime. ‘Acquisitive crime’ covers crime where items are stolen or acquired fraudulently. This includes theft, burglary, robbery, and fraud. Locally we have also seen an increase in the circulation of counterfeit Bermuda currency.



Police Investigate Recent Robberies

Police are investigating a reported robbery that occurred around 7:30pm on Monday March 5th in the Lolly’s Lane, Smith’s parish area. It appears that a taxi driver dropped off a fare in the area when he was accosted by two unknown men, one brandishing what appeared to be a firearm. The suspects stole a quantity of cash before making good their escape on a dark & red coloured motorcycle. The taxi driver, a 34 year old Devonshire man, was not injured.



Missing Person John Iris Located

Missing Juveniles: Santina Harvey & Ashley Mussenden [Located]

The Bermuda Police Service is appealing for the public’s assistance in locating 17 year old Santina Harvey and 15 year old Ashley Mussenden. The teenagers were last seen on Friday, March 2nd. Santina [pictured] is described as dark brown skinned of slim build, approximately 5’7” tall weighing around 115 pounds with reddish-brown long hair. She was last seen wearing a pair of jeans, a brown leather jacket and brown boots.



Missing Person: William Peniston [Located]

The Bermuda Police Service is appealing for the public’s assistance in locating 58 year old William Peniston of St. George’s. Mr. Peniston, a taxi driver, is described as light skinned of medium build, 5’10” tall with black hair cut short. He was last seen on Thursday, March 1st driving taxi T1578, wearing a white dress shirt, grey pants and a dark green sweater vest.



Remembering Police Constable Sandy Rowe-Campbell

At 4pm on Tuesday, February 28th a memorial service was held for Police Constable Sandy Rowe-Campbell at the Heritage Worship Centre in Pembroke. Dignitaries in attendance included His Excellency the Governor Sir Richard Gozney, Premier the Hon. Paula Cox, Opposition Leader Senator Craig Cannonier and Deputy Opposition Leader Senator Michael Dunkley as well as the Comissioner of Police, representatives from the Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service and Bermuda Regiment.



Commissioner Welcomes HMIC Report

Commissioner of Police Michael DeSilva - The request by the Bermuda Police Service to His Excellency to be inspected by HMIC was made with the Bermuda public in mind. It provides an independent assessment of what we are doing well, what we need to do better and new ideas that we should consider with the local context in mind. It gives members of the public some insight to assess how effective and efficient we are being with our resources, and whether we have the right order of priorities.



Investigation Ongoing Into Mission Lane, Pembroke Shooting

About 12:55am on Wednesday 29th February 2012, police officers responded to a report of gunshots outside a private residence located on Mission Lane in Pembroke. On arrival officers ascertained that a 23 year old male sustained a suspected gunshot wound and had been conveyed to the hospital in a private car. Detectives from the Serious Crime Unit commenced investigations and enquiries have revealed that the victim briefly exited the residence where he, and possibly another male, were targeted by an unknown gunman.



Shooting: North Shore Road, Pembroke Area

Around 1am on Wednesday, February 29th police responded to reports of gunshots in the North Shore Road, Bandroom Lane Pembroke area. A 23 year old man has been shot and injured as a result; however his injuries do not appear to be life threatening. Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information to contact the main police number 295-0011 or the independent & confidential Crime Stoppers hotline on 800-8477.

The Bermuda Police Service is appealing for the public’s assistance in locating 17 year old Santina Harvey and 15 year old Ashley Mussenden. The teenagers were last seen on Monday, February 27th. Santina [pictured] is described as dark brown skinned of slim build, approximately 5’7” tall weighing around 115 pounds with reddish-brown long hair. She was last seen wearing a school uniform.



Police Applaud Public Support, Arrest Motorcyclist

Over this past weekend there was an increased police presence throughout the Island, which included road checks and monitoring football matches at various football club grounds. Nothing untoward was encountered at any of the football grounds, adequate security was evident and well-behaved spectators were in attendance. The community has clearly shown that there is no tolerance for anti-social behavior at sporting events and the Bermuda Police Service would like to thank the public for their cooperation during the weekend’s increased police activity.
