Police Team to Row One Million Metres for Charity

Members of the public are encouraged to join police officers and support staff from Somerset Police Station as they row one million metres as part of their Community Outreach Programme.
The event is being hosted at the Sandys 360 Sports, Aquatic & Enrichment Centre and starts at 3pm on Wednesday, July 11th 2012, with the ten member police team rowing continuously for three and a half days in order to complete the one million metre distance - which is almost 622 miles!

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 80 year old Don Wildman of Florida U.S.A. Mr. Wildman, a visitor to the island, was seriously injured when the rental cycle he was riding collided with a wooden railing around 10am Saturday, July 7th along South Road in Warwick.
He was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance but tragically was pronounced dead by an on call doctor at 10:25am Saturday.
Inquiries into this fatal collision are ongoing. The Bermuda Police Service extends condolences to the family & friends of Mr. Wildman.
Police Apprehend Absconded Inmate Shane Todd

Police can now confirm fugitive from justice Shane Todd was captured without incident a few minutes after 11am this morning, Saturday July 7th, in the area of Summit View Road in Hamilton Parish.
We would like to thank members of the public for their assistance in this matter. Todd is now at Hamilton Police Station where he will be processed and detained.
A court appearance is expected in the near future.

First responders attended a road traffic collision that took place a few minutes after 10 this morning, Saturday, July 7th.
It appears that an 80 year old man on a livery cycle was traveling west on South Road in the area of South Shore Park in Warwick, when he lost control of his cycle and collided with a wooden railing.
This resulted in the 80 year old tourist from Florida being taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
No further information will be given until the next of kin has been notified.

The Bermuda Police Service continues to try and locate 36 year old Shane Todd who recently failed to return to the Prison Farm at the designated time, while on a work release programme and who presently remains 'Unlawfully at Large.' Recruit Foundation Course #74 Charity Fundraiser

Members of the public are encouraged to support the student officers of Recruit Foundation Course #74, who will be holding a charity fundraiser car wash & bake sale at the RUBiS Paget Service Station located at the junction of Middle Road & Valley Road in Paget on Saturday, 7th July 2012, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Every Recruit Foundation Course raises money for the charity of their choice. Once again this year, the student officers have chosen the Bermuda Cancer & Health Centre. Cars will be washed and dried for $20 while motorcycles/auxiliary cycles will be washed and dried for $10, with baked goods also available for purchase on the day.
Police Seek Absconded Inmate

The Bermuda Police Service is seeking the whereabouts of 36 year old Shane Todd. Mr. Todd recently failed to return to the Prison Farm at the designated time while on a work release programme. He is described as brown skinned, approximately 5’8” tall weighing around 150 pounds. He was last seen wearing a blue T-shirt, blue pants and white high-top sneakers.
Acting Chief Inspector Andy Morgan of the Public Protection Department advises members of the public who may see Mr. Todd to contact the main police number 295-0011 at the earliest opportunity.
Search Warrant Executed at Pembroke Residence Results in Arrest

As a result of specific information received, officers from the Public Protection Department including armed police officers and the Canine Unit executed a search warrant under the Firearms Act & Misuse of Drugs Act at a Sugar Apple Lane, Pembroke residence around 10am on Tuesday, July 3rd. During the operation a male was arrested and inquiries are ongoing.

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 33 year old Christoph Nagel. Mr. Nagel, a German national and Bermuda resident, sustained serious injuries when the motorcycle he was riding went over an embankment in the South Road, Paynters Road Hamilton parish area around 2am on Sunday, July 1st.
Members of the public quickly came to Mr. Nagel’s assistance and performed CPR before EMTs arrived and continued CPR at the scene. However, despite this and being rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance, he was subsequently pronounced dead at the hospital by an on call doctor at 3am Sunday.

Around 2am on Sunday, July 1st police and first responders attended a reported serious single vehicle collision in the South Road, Paynters Road Hamilton parish area.
It appears that a motorcycle was traveling along South Road when it went over an embankment. The rider, a 33 year old Paget man, was seriously injured as a result.
The victim was given CPR at the scene before being taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance.
Reported Serious Collision in Southampton

Around 2:30am on Saturday, June 30th police and first responders attended a reported serious single vehicle collision on Middle Road in Southampton. It appears that a motorcycle was traveling along Middle Road when it collided with a roadside embankment. As a result the rider, a 32 year old Southampton man, sustained what are believed to be serious injuries and was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment. Traffic was diverted away from the scene at the junction with Lighthouse Road and Church Road while collision investigators conducted inquiries. The investigation into this reported serious collision is ongoing.

Around 7pm on Wednesday, June 27th police and first responders attended a reported serious single vehicle collision on Crow Lane in Pembroke near the junction with Corkscrew Hill.
It appears that a motorcycle was traveling out of the City of Hamilton along Crow Lane when it collided with a bus stop shelter. As a result the rider, a 25 year old man, was injured and taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment. The extent of his injuries is unknown at this time. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Superintendent Antoine Daniels - On behalf of the Bermuda Police Service, I wish to begin by expressing sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of 31 year old Pembroke resident Joshua Robinson, who tragically lost his life on Saturday evening.
As previously reported, at about 5:15pm on Saturday (June 23rd) Joshua Robinson was shot a number of times, while inside Jason’s Barber Shop, located on North Shore Road in Pembroke.
He was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later by an on call medical physician.

The investigation into the fatal shooting of a 31 year old man at Jason’s Barber Shop is ongoing. Investigators from the Serious Crime Unit are interested in speaking with anyone who was in the vicinity of North Shore Road, Pembroke from 5:05pm to 5:20pm Saturday, June 23rd.
In particular, detectives would like to speak with anyone that may have seen two males on a motorcycle fleeing the area of Jason’s Barber Shop during this time frame.

Assistant Commissioner of Police David Mirfield - Around 5:20pm on Saturday, June 23rd police responded to reported gunshots at Jason's Barbershop on North Shore Road in Pembroke.
It appears that two men on a motorcycle wearing full face helmets arrived at the location. One of the suspects got off the motorcycle and shot the victim, a 31 year old man, before both men escaped on the motorcycle heading west.

Assistant Commissioner of Police David Mirfield - The Bermuda Police Service welcomes the Supreme Court’s sentencing of Victor Roberts, who admitted to importing a significant quantity of drugs and ammunition into Bermuda in 2011. The contraband was intercepted as a result of the ongoing partnership between law enforcement and partner agencies here and in the U.S.
The sentence of 20 years imprisonment should send a strong deterrent message to those engaged in the importation of drugs and firearms.
Sudden Death of John Pitt

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 25 year old John Pitt of Pembroke. Mr. Pitt’s lifeless body was found around 2:30pm Thursday, June 14th at a Shaw Wood Crescent, Pembroke residence. He was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene by an on call doctor.
An autopsy has been conducted by a forensic pathologist, and the findings have been shared with the family of Mr. Pitt.
The results of the autopsy are subject to consideration by the Coroner, thus will not be released publicly. The Bermuda Police Service extends condolences to the family & friends of Mr. Pitt at this tragic time.
Deputy Commissioner Awarded Overseas Territories Police Medal

The Bermuda Police Service congratulates Deputy Commissioner Mike Jackman, who was awarded the Overseas Territories Police Medal (formerly the Colonial Police Medal) for Meritorious Service in the recently released 2012 Queen's Birthday Honours list.
Deputy Police Commissioner Jackman arrived from Barbados in 1982 and commenced his initial training. He has worked in many areas of policing including all three police stations, Traffic, Narcotics and Community Policing. He has also served as Chairman of the Bermuda Police Association from 1996-1999.
Sudden Death

Around 2:30pm on Thursday June 14th, police and first responders attended a report of an unresponsive male at a Shaw Wood Crescent, Pembroke residence.
As a result, the lifeless body of a 25 year old Pembroke man was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene by an on call doctor.
There does not appear to be any suspicious circumstances at this time, however an autopsy is anticipated. No further information regarding the deceased will be released until the next of kin have been notified.
