Third Road Fatality For 2013

First responders attended a serious single vehicle road traffic collision that took place at 2:06 this morning on Mullet Bay Road in St. George's.It appears that a 25 year old St. George's man was traveling on a livery cycle when he lost control of the cycle. He was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he later was pronounced dead. No further information will be given until the next of kin has been notified.



Second Road Fatality For 2013

Around 12:45am on Friday, January 18th police and first responders attended a reported serious road traffic collision on Montpelier Road in Devonshire in the area of Happy Valley Road. It appears that a car and a motorcycle collided, resulting in the motorcycle rider being trapped under the car. The 31 year old Devonshire man was eventually freed and taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance where he later was pronounced dead. No further information will be given until the next of kin has been notified.



Paul Marsden Memorial Rugby

The 7th annual Paul Marsden Memorial Rugby game will be taking place this Saturday 19th January 2013 at 3:30pm at National Sports Complex north west rugby pitch. The Mariners Rugby Football Club will be looking to retain the trophy after last year’s 22-12 victory. Police Constable 2206 Paul Marsden tragically died on the rugby field while playing rugby for the Bermuda Police Rugby Football Club on 22nd January 2006.



Two Confirmed Firearm Incidents, One Man Shot

Police responded to reports of two confirmed firearms incidents that took place on Wednesday night. The first incident took place at approximately 9:30pm on Curving Avenue in Pembroke where two individuals rode up on a motorcycle and discharged a firearm; however no one was injured as a result of this incident.The second incident took place at 9:45pm at Khyber Heights Lane in Warwick, where a 28 year old man was shot. He was then transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he is presently being treated for gun shot wounds to his upper torso.



Reported Serious Collision in Paget

Around 6:30pm on Tuesday, January 15th police and first responders were dispatched to a report of a serious road traffic collision located on Middle Road in Paget near the junction with Chapel Road involving a taxi and a pedestrian. The pedestrian, a 35 year old Warwick man, was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance where he is presently being treated for serious head injuries.Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen the collision to contact the Roads Policing Unit on 295-0011.



Sudden Death

Sunday, January 13,2013

Marine Police and Fisheries responded to a report of a diving incident that took place in the waters off of Castle Harbour in St. George's around 1:30pm Sunday, January 13th. It appears that a man was diving with two other individuals in the aforementioned area when he came into difficulty and began a rapid ascent to the surface. He was placed aboard a private dive vessel and that vessel was met by an emergency service vessel and the man was then taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead. No further information will be given until the next of kin is notified.



Central CAT Assist With Pembroke Park Clean Up

On Saturday the 12th of January 2013 officers from the Central Community Action Team joined local residents and volunteers to assist in a clean-up of the Parsons Road playground and surrounding areas organised by Keep Bermuda Beautiful (K.B.B.) and its Executive Director Ms. Anne Hyde.



Former Commissioner of Police George Duckett Memorial Rugby

Reserve Police Welcome Eleven New Officers

During a recent ceremony held at 7:30pm Wednesday, December 12th 2012 in the Prospect Police Recreation Club, the Bermuda Reserve Police inducted eleven new Reserve Constables, promoted four serving Reserve Constables to Sergeant and acknowledged a retiring Reserve Inspector for 25 years of service.



First Road Fatality For 2013

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 51 year old Andrew Peniston of Smith’s parish. Mr. Peniston was seriously injured in a single vehicle collision that occurred around 12:10am on Sunday, January 6th in the North Shore Road, Barkers Hill Devonshire area when the motorcycle he was riding apparently collided with a traffic island. Mr. Peniston was initially treated at the scene before being taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance where he was pronounced dead by an on call doctor at 12:30am.



Investigation Into Suspicious Envelope at Airport

Following a call to the L.F. Wade International Airport after 5pm on Thursday, January 3rd, emergency services attended to a report of a suspicious envelope that had been delivered by regular mail. The envelope was forensically examined and no traces of any toxic or other substance was found in the envelope or the contents which originated overseas. No injuries were caused to any staff at the airport however one staff member was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital out of an abundance of caution. Two family members who escorted the staff member to the hospital were checked and released soon after.



Chief Inspector Pedro Graduates From FBI National Academy

Commissioner of Police Michael A. DeSilva - Chief Inspector Nicholas Pedro of the Bermuda Police Service recently graduated from Session #251 of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. He was one of 260 law enforcement executives and managers who graduated on Friday 14th December. The 251st session of the National Academy consisted of men and women from across the United States, and included members of law enforcement agencies from 29 international countries including Bermuda.



Policing For New Year's Eve

Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police Martin Weekes - This year the Christmas holiday period was marred by the tragic deaths of two young men, one lost through the gun violence that continues to plague our island and one lost on our roads. We wish to again extend our condolences to the families and to thank the public for their support and assistance in the investigation of both these incidents. I would like to reassure the public that persons are currently in custody in relation to the murder of Mr. Augustus and that enquiries are continuing into that incident.



Police Seek Wolde Gardner [Located]

The Bermuda Police Service is seeking to speak with Mr. Wolde Gardner as a matter of urgency in relation to the murder of Mr. Malcolm Augustus. Mr. Gardner is urged to make contact with detectives from the Serious Crime Unit on 247-1185 or on the main police number 295-0011. Anyone knowing how to contact Mr. Gardner or knowing his whereabouts is also urged to make contact with the police at the above numbers or the confidential Crime Stoppers hotline on 800-8477.



Man Arrested: Malcolm Augustus Murder Investigation

Detective Chief Inspector Nicholas Pedro - The members of the Bermuda Police Service would like to extend their heartfelt condolences to the friends & family of Mr. Malcolm Augustus who is now tragically the sixth young Bermudian man to lose his life by murder this year. Mr. Augustus was a 20 year old single man in the prime of his life.  The police investigation so far has determined that Mr. Augustus was killed by gunfire on the border of St. George’s golf course at about 12:05am on Tuesday 25th December, 2012 (Christmas Day).



Update: Ninth Road Fatality for 2012

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 24 year old Malik Weeks who died as a result of a single vehicle road traffic collision that took place on North Shore Road and Old Road in Hamilton Parish. Inquiries into this fatal collision are ongoing and any witnesses are encouraged to contact PC Sean Hassell of the Roads Policing Unit on 295-0011 or 247-1200. The Bermuda Police Service extends our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Weeks.



Ninth Road Fatality for 2012

At approximately 11:28pm Tuesday, December 25th 2012, first responders were dispatched to a report of a single vehicle road traffic collision located at North Shore Road and Old Road in Hamilton parish. This single vehicle collision involved a motorcycle ridden by a 24 year old male who was transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries.No further information will be given until the next of kin has been notified.



Malcolm Augustus Murder Investigation Underway

The Bermuda Police Service can confirm that at about 12:05am today, police officers and medical responders attended Anchorage Lane in St. George’s in response to a report of gunfire. On arrival officers met the 20 year old victim, who was on the golf course, and who appeared to have been shot. He was conveyed to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where a doctor later pronounced him dead. A full investigation into this incident is underway, being led by Detective Inspector Dave Greenidge.



Advisory Regarding Illegal Parking Near Elbow Beach

There are many persons who are presently at the Elbow Beach celebrating the holiday festivities. However as a result, there are an overabundance of vehicles parked on South Road in Paget and surrounding side roads and streets.Many of these vehicles are parked illegally and causing  major safety hazards on the roads.Officers went to the venue and communicated over the PA system for violators to have their vehicles moved with very little success.



20 Year Old Man Fatally Shot in St. George's

Police responded to a report of a firearms incident that took place at approximately 12:05am on Tuesday, December 25th 2012, in the area of Anchorage Lane, St. George's. Upon police arrival it was ascertained that a 20 year old man was shot and killed.Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area of St. George's Golf Club to please contact the main police number 295-0011 or the independent and confidential Crime Stoppers hotline on 800-8477.
