Sudden Death of Infant

Police and first responders attended a reported medical emergency at a dwelling on Southcourt Avenue in Paget at 9:46 this morning.
Upon their arrival it was ascertained that a 4 year old girl was in a non-responsive state.
The infant was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
No further information will be given until the next of kin has been notified and foul play is not suspected in this incident.
Gunshots Fired in Warwick: No Reported Injuries

A few minutes before 8:30pm police responded to reports of gun shots in the Jones Village area of Warwick. Upon police arrival it was forensically confirmed that a firearm was discharged, however no one was injured. Police are appealing to anyone who may have seen anything or anyone acting suspiciously in the area to contact police on 295-0011 or the confidential Crime Stoppers hotline on 800-8477.
Reported Serious Collision in Devonshire

Around 6:15pm on Sunday, February 24th police and first responders attended a reported serious single vehicle motorcycle collision on North Shore Road in Devonshire near the junction with Barkers Hill. The rider, believed to be a 30 year old woman, sustained serious head injuries and was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment. Inquiries into this collision are ongoing and any witnesses are encouraged to contact the Roads Policing Unit on 295-0011.

The Bermuda Police Service, along with our partners in the Road Safety Council and the Transport Control Department, seek to combine education, prevention and enforcement to raise awareness of unsafe driving behaviours and habits. While we appreciate that most road users are law abiding citizens, the photographs we are releasing today illustrate there is still some work to do to encourage the motoring public to change some of its bad driving habits.

Attempted Robbery at Wok Express

A few minutes after 5:30pm today, a male suspect went to the front counter of the Wok Express on Middle Road in Southampton, brandished what is believed to be a firearm and made demands of money. There was a verbal exchange, however the man left the area without anything being taken or anyone hurt.Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area or anyone who may have any knowledge of this incident to contact the Western Criminal Investigation Unit on 234-1010.

Detective Chief Inspector Nicholas Pedro - The Bermuda Police Service continues to actively investigate the circumstances of the murders of Mr. Ricco Furbert & Mr. Haile Outerbridge.
Whilst we had hoped to obtain a full range of forensic results by the conclusion of the detention period of both suspects, this was not possible. The Bermuda Police Service is reliant on our overseas forensic partners in this process.

Police and first responders attended a report of a serious road traffic collision that took place in the early hours of this morning.It appears that a 33 year old Smith's parish man was riding a motorcycle along Palmetto Road in Devonshire when he collided with a traffic island in the area of Barkers Hill.

The Bermuda Police Service is seeking the public's assistance in locating 52 year old Amanda Hunt, who was last seen yesterday near the bus stop at Craddock Road in Sandys at 8pm.She is described as 5 feet tall, dark complexioned, with a close short hair cut and of slim build. She was last seen in a black jacket, blouse, jeans and boots.Anyone knowing the whereabouts of Amanda Hunt should call police on 295-0011.

Fatal Industrial Accident Victim Identified

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 47 year old Millard Bean of Smith’s parish. Around 11:30am on Tuesday, February 5th Mr. Bean was seriously injured in an industrial accident at Morgan’s Point in Sandys parish when a wooden structure fell on him.
Mr. Bean was treated at the scene by EMTs before being taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance, where he was later pronounced dead by an on call doctor at 12:25pm. A Family Liaison Officer has been assigned to Mr. Bean’s family to assist them at this tragic time.

Around 6am on Saturday, February 2nd police and first responders attended a reported serious road traffic collision on Frog Lane in Devonshire. It appears that a 29 year old Devonshire man was riding a motorcycle along Frog Lane and collided into barricades in the area. The Devonshire man was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance where he was later pronounced dead.
Traffic was diverted away from the area while collision investigators examined the scene. No further information regarding the deceased will be given at this time until the next of kin has been notified. Inquiries into this fatal collision are ongoing.
Fourth Road Fatality For 2013

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 31 year old Jason Darrell. Mr. Darrell was seriously injured when the motorcycle he was riding was involved in a collision with another motorcycle and a car at the junction of Harbour Road and Salt Kettle Road in Paget around 5:10pm Saturday, January 26th.
Mr. Darrell was in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit of King Edward VII Memorial Hospital before ultimately succumbing to his injuries earlier this week.

Search Continues For Firearm Suspect

As part of an ongoing proactive police operation to address gun crime, armed officers attended a residence on Seawall Drive, Boaz Island, Sandys Parish at about 11am on Monday 28th January, 2013 to effect a search.
As police arrived a man bolted from the residence clutching what is believed to be a firearm. A search to locate the man was commenced. However, he remains at large. Three other persons were arrested at the residence and are in police custody. A quantity of drugs and ammunition was seized from the house.

Detective Chief Inspector Nicholas Pedro - At about 9pm on Wednesday 23rd January, 2013, the Bermuda Police Service received 911 calls of two men having been shot inside the Belvin's grocery store located on Happy Valley Road, Pembroke.

Around 9pm on Wednesday, January 23rd police officers responded to a confirmed firearm incident at Belvin's Variety store on Happy Valley Road in Pembroke. Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered two injured men inside the store. They were taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where shortly thereafter they were pronounced dead.
Members of the Serious Crime Unit are now investigating this double homicide and are appealing for anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the Happy Valley Road, Pembroke area to contact 247-1739 or the independent and confidential Crime Stoppers hotline on 800-8477.
Road Traffic Collision Statistics For 2012

During 2012 the number of collisions reported to Police has decreased by 6.5% to 1,837 compared to 2011's total of 1,956. This also reflects a decrease over 2010's figure of 2,211.
There were 819 injury collisions reported, lower than 2011's figure of 852 and lower than 2010's figure of 832. As a result 951 persons were injured, 645 locals were slightly, 144 seriously, 150 tourists slightly and 12 seriously injured.
