135th Anniversary Police Tattoo Cancelled

The Bermuda Police Service regrets to inform the public that the Police Tattoo has been cancelled following the passage of Tropical Storm Fay.



135th Anniversary Police Tattoo Postponed Until Sunday

Saturday, October 11,2014

After careful consultation with the relevant stakeholders and the elevation of Tropical Storm Fay to a tropical storm warning, a decision was made to formally postpone the Tattoo until Sunday October 12th at 5pm at the National Sports Centre. In the event of rain tomorrow (Sunday), a wet weather plan at Ruth Seaton James Centre for the Performing Arts will be in effect with two shows: the first at 4pm for the Commissioner's Vision Award winners and special guests and the second concert at 6pm for the general public.



135th Anniversary Police Tattoo Wet Weather Plan

As a result of impending inclement weather predicted for Saturday, October 11th a wet weather plan for the Police Tattoo has been enacted. In the event of rain tomorrow, formal communication will be disseminated to the media and through BPS channels of communication to alert the public as to the alternative plans. A formal decision will be made at 3pm tomorrow (Saturday) to announce the rain venue.



135th Anniversary Parade of Staff & Historic Lecture

At 11am tomorrow, Wednesday October 8th as part of Police Week 2014 celebrating 135 years of policing, the Bermuda Police Service will host a Parade of Staff (Past & Present) led by the Bermuda Regiment Band & Corps of Drums through the City of Hamilton. The route will be from Hamilton Police Station along Court Street on to Front Street, along Front Street to the Bird Cage and up Queen Street, ending at City Hall. The procession will culminate with a historic photo on the steps of City Hall.



135th Anniversary Police Convoy of Vehicles

In celebration of 135 years of policing in Bermuda and the official date of the establishment of The Bermuda Police Service (October 1st 1879), the BPS police convoy display took place today, consisting of over 31 vehicles representing a cross section of vehicles in the police fleet. This dynamic visual display was the Service’s way of saying thank you to the community for the  support over the years. It is our wish that the convoy will create an iconic memory in the hearts and minds of Bermuda’s youth, establish positive relationships and plant a seed that one day may inspire them to join the BPS.



32nd Meeting Open: INTERPOL Specialists Group on Crimes Against Children

At 9:30am on Tuesday, September 30th the 32nd Meeting of the Interpol Specialists Group on Crimes Against Children, hosted by the Bermuda Police Service, was officially opened at the Fairmont Southampton. His Excellency the Governor George Fergusson, the Premier and Minister of National Security the Hon. Michael Dunkley JP MP and the Commissioner of the Bermuda Police Service Michael DeSilva gave opening remarks. Please see their remarks and photos from the event below.



Tenth Road Fatality for 2014

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of a 46 year old St. George's man who died as a result of a road traffic collision that took place yesterday at 12:30pm on North Shore Road in Hamilton parish.



32nd Meeting of INTERPOL Specialist Group on Crimes Against Children

The 32nd meeting of Interpol Specialist Group on Crimes Against Children will take place in Bermuda from September 28th to October 3rd at the Fairmont Southampton. 31 countries of the 45 member countries will be present and close to 150 delegates have registered. Arrests Made After Drug Seizure in Deepdale Road, Pembroke Area

Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police James Howard - Good afternoon members of the media. Early this morning (Thursday, 25th September 2014), the Bermuda Police Service conducted multiple search warrants issued under the Misuse of Drugs Act around the Deepdale Road East, Pembroke area. This resulted in the arrest of four adult males, one juvenile male and one female.



Investigation of Complaint Against Court of Appeal President Completed

The Bermuda Police Service has conducted a full and comprehensive investigation into the complaint made against the President of the Court of Appeal and the Registrar of the Supreme Court by a number of complainants under the collective name of the ‘Civil Justice Advocacy Group’ (CJAG). A file was reviewed by the Director of Public Prosecutions and a decision has been taken that no prosecution will be commenced in this matter.



Teen Shot & Injured in Southampton

At 10:12pm on Monday, police and first responders attended a report of gunshots in the area of Riviera Crescent, Southampton. Upon police arrival it was ascertained that a 17 year old male was shot in his lower extremities. He was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment. His injuries are believed to be non-life threatening. Early reports are that two men on a motorcycle came into the area, discharged the shots and then made good their escape.



Promotions to Inspector: Paul Simons & Steve Nurse

The Commissioner of Police would like to announce the promotions of Paul Simons and Steve Nurse to the post of Inspector. Paul joined the Bermuda Police Service in 1996 and Steve has over 29 years of policing in Bermuda. Paul Simons has worked in operational policing, Task Force (now the Police Support Unit), Roads Policing Unit and the Western Community Action Team. He will take responsibilities in the Duty Inspectors Office.



Marine Police Re-Emphasize Responsible Boat Operation

Following this past weekend’s search and rescue effort involving an overdue vessel, the Bermuda Police Service (BPS) Marine Unit, Bermuda Radio and the Bermuda Water Safety Council wish to remind local mariners that the responsible operation of a watercraft includes having the required safety and communications equipment onboard before leaving any dock or mooring. Inspector Robert Cardwell, Officer Responsible for the Marine Unit stated: “I can confirm that the BPS Marine Unit was involved in this search, working together and coordinating efforts to recover the overdue vessel with Bermuda Radio.



Eastern Community Action Team Community Clinic Tomorrow

The Eastern Community Action Team (ECAT) will again be holding a Police Community Clinic on Wednesday 17th September from 10:00am – 12:00pm and again from 4:00pm – 6:00pm at the Shelly Bay Marketplace, Hamilton parish.The objective is similar to previous clinics: To solicit concerns about ongoing anti-social or criminal activity in neighborhoods.

Court Appearance Regarding 2013 Double Murder

The repatriation of LeVeck Roberts was a result of extensive collaboration between the U.S. Department of Justice and the Bermuda Director of Public Prosecutions. The 21 year old Bermudian LeVeck Roberts, with dual U.S. nationality, was extradited on Sunday 31st August, 2014 from the United States to Bermuda to face murder charges.



Sudden Death

First responders attended a report of an incident that took place at around 4:30pm in Devonshire Bay. A member of the public noticed a man’s motionless body onboard a vessel and notified emergency services. The 75-year-old Devonshire man was pronounced dead at the scene. No further information will be given until the next of kin has been notified, and foul play is not suspected.



Stabbing Incident in Pembroke

Around 5:27pm on Monday August 11th, Police received a report of a stabbing at a Crossland Lane, Pembroke residence. Police attended the residence a short time later and found the victim, a 62 year old Pembroke man, lying outside on the steps to apartment in an unresponsive state.



Reported Serious Collision on Parsons Road

First responders attended a report of a road traffic collision between a motorcycle and a taxi, that took place on Parsons Road, Pembroke near Deep Dale West at 11:28pm last night. It appears that the taxi was travelling west on Parsons Road and the cyclist was travelling east when the female rider lost control of the cycle and collided with the taxi. The female on the cycle is currently in ICU with leg, internal and facial injuries. The taxi driver received cuts and abrasions to his leg and one of the passengers in the taxi received cuts to her leg.



Reported Serious Collision on Kindley Field Road Medical Update

The 51 year old man is currently still in the hospital with a host of serious injuries. The 44 year old woman is listed in serious condition with a number of serious injuries as well. The 19 year old man was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst impaired. An active investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident is now underway and police would like to speak with anyone who can assist in this investigation to please call 295-0011.
