BPS Statement on Allegations Re: Former Cornerstone Clergy Member

The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) is aware of allegations circulating on social media about past inappropriate sexual conduct of a former Cornerstone Bible Fellowship clergy member. To date, no criminal complaints have been made to the BPS. We would like to remind the public that formal complaints are required by law in order for the police to investigate such allegations. Online statements and social media posts do not qualify as formal complaints.



Traffic Advisory for MarketPlace Santa Claus Parade

The motoring public is reminded that the annual MarketPlace Christmas Parade will take place in the City of Hamilton on Sunday 26th November 2017, commencing at 5pm from the corner of Par-La-Ville Road and Church Street. Church Street will remain open to eastbound traffic between Par-La-Ville Road and Parliament Street to facilitate access to the MarketPlace until the parade commences.



Reported Serious Collision on Ord Road [Updated]

Police and first responders attended a report of a road traffic collision that took place on Ord Road in Paget just west of the Ord Road Laundry near Dunscombe Road at 2:58pm (Thursday). It appears that a 48 year old man was traveling on Ord Road when he hit a parked truck. The man was taken to the hospital and his condition is believed to be serious.



Tractor Trailer Crash in Hamilton Parish [Updated]

Around 12:40pm Wednesday, November 15th police and first responders were dispatched to a report of a single vehicle crash along Wilkinson Avenue in Hamilton parish. Details remain limited at this time, but the tractor trailer involved ended up off the road. Apparently the driver was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.



Fourteenth Road Fatality for 2017: Mendell Outerbridge

The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) can now confirm the death of 34 year old Mendell Outerbridge and extends sincere condolences to his family and friends. Mr. Outerbridge, said to be from Warwick, was riding a motorcycle along Middle Road, Sandys around 9:50pm on Thursday, 9th November. Police officers were conducting laser speed checks at the time and an officer on foot signalled him to stop.



Fatal Collision on Somerset Road in Sandys Parish [Updated]

Around 9:50pm Thursday, November 9th police and first responders attended a reported serious collision in the Somerset Road, Scaur Hill Drive Sandys parish area, near the 'Lantana' property. Initial information suggests that a male motorcyclist collided with a truck. The rider was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance with serious injuries and sadly, was later pronounced dead.

Inspector Robert Cardwell, Officer in Charge of the Roads Policing Unit - The Bermuda Police Service Roads Policing Unit is primarily focused on working towards meeting the objectives in the Bermuda Police Service Road Safety Strategy. Those objectives are around calming the traffic on the roads, making safer roads and saving lives. Part of meeting the strategy objectives entails using all the tools and resources available to us. This includes all advances in technology.



National Security Minister Visits Recruit Foundation Course #78

Today (Thursday, November 9th) the Minister of National Security, the Hon. Wayne M. Caines JP MP visited Bermuda Police Service (BPS) Recruit Foundation Course (RFC) #78 at Police Headquarters in Prospect, Devonshire. RFC #78 consists of 13 recruits, 10 men and 3 women from diverse backgrounds, who are in the midst of a 14 week training programme.



Investigation Regarding the Murder of 30 Year Old Morlan Steede

Detective Sergeant Jason Smith - Approximately 9:40 p.m. on Friday the 3rd day of November, 2017, police officers responded to several 911 calls reporting that gun shots were heard in the area of Two Way Deepdale and Parsons Road junction, Pembroke. Upon the arrival of police officers they were directed to the Parsons Road area at the junction of Parsons Road and Two Way Deepdale and discovered that a man had been shot several times and was unresponsive. The officers administered C.P.R. to the victim on the scene.



Thirteenth Road Fatality for 2017: Ionel Bejan

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 39 year old Ionel Bejan and extends sincere condolences to his family and friends. Mr. Bejan, said to be a Romanian guest worker, was seriously injured around 3:45am Sunday‎, November 5th when the motorcycle he was riding struck a shipping container on Church Street in the City of Hamilton. He was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ‎ambulance but sadly, later pronounced dead.



Reported Serious Collision Outside of MarketPlace [Updated]

Police and first responders attended a report of a single vehicle road traffic collision that took place at 3:45am on Church Street. Details are still developing but it appears that a 39 year old man was traveling east on Church Street on a motorcycle when he lost control and collided with a shipping container parked on the right hand side of the road just past MarketPlace. The man was taken to the hospital via ambulance and his condition appears to be serious.



Murder of 30 Year Old Morlan Steede

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 30 year old Morlan Steede, who died as a result of a firearms incident that took place at One-Way Deepdale, at 9:40pm on Friday evening. Details are still emerging but it appears that the deceased was on One-Way Deepdale when a male on a motorcycle discharged his firearm resulting in the Mr. Steede being shot. He was taken via ambulance to the hospital where he was pronounced dead at 10:32pm.

Police and other first responders attended a report of a firearms incident that took place at approximately 9:40pm tonight (Friday) in the area of One Way Deep Dale. It appears that a male traveling on a motorcycle discharged his firearm resulting in a 30 year old male being taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds.  The 30 year old man was later pronounced dead by a doctor at the hospital.



Residents Advised to be Vigilant Regarding Burglary Suspects

Over the last two weeks there have been 23 reports of burglaries around the island. Two in the City of Hamilton, two in Devonshire, one in Hamilton parish, four in Paget, four in Pembroke, three in Sandys parish, one in Smith’s parish, four in Southampton and two in St. George’s. This represents roughly two burglaries per day, with most taking place during working hours (8am to 5pm). In a number of these incidents suspects have been identified and police are actively pursuing leads.



Twelfth Road Fatality for 2017: Rakai Augustus

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 30 year old Rakai Augustus and extends sincere condolences to his family and friends. Mr. Augustus was seriously injured around 11:40pm Saturday‎, October 28th when the car he was travelling in struck a wall in the Wellington Street, York Street St. George's area between Rose Hill Street and Fort George Hill. He was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ‎ambulance but sadly, later pronounced dead.



Fatal Car Crash on York Street in St. George's

Around 11:40pm Saturday‎, October 28th police and first responders were dispatched to a reported serious single vehicle car crash on York Street in St. George's near the junction with Fort George Hill. It appears that two people, believed to be a 29 year old Warwick woman and a 30 year old Devonshire man, were in the vehicle when it struck a wall. Both were taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ‎ambulance where sadly, the 30 year old man was later pronounced dead.



Policing Plan & Safety Advice for Halloween

Halloween is fast approaching and on Tuesday, October 31st many children and adults will dress up in costumes to enjoy a host of activities across the island. Typically children taking part in the festivities will go door to door to collect candy and adults will also gather at a variety of private Halloween functions during the weekend prior. As usual police officers will be patrolling throughout the western, central and eastern parishes monitoring the various Halloween related activities.

Sudden Death of Mr. Robert Wilson

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 63 year old Robert Wilson and extends sincere condolences to his family and friends. Mr. Wilson was found in an unresponsive state at an Eastdale Lane, Southampton residence around 7:35pm Tuesday, October 17th and later pronounced dead at the scene by an on call doctor. Foul play is not suspected. However, an autopsy is anticipated.
