Reported Serious Collision: North Shore Road, Devonshire [Updated]

Police and first responders attended a report of a road traffic collision that took place on North Shore Road just east of Barkers Hill at around 5:30pm today. It appears that a rider of a motorcycle and a car collided resulting in a male motorcycle rider being trapped underneath the car. The man was eventually extricated from the vehicle by Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service. He was then taken via ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he is being treated for serious head injuries.

Reported Single Vehicle Car Crash in Devonshire [Updated]

At approximately 3pm today, February 22nd, police and other first responders attended an incident in Devonshire. Upon police arrival it was ascertained that a car somehow was driven off an embankment on Orange Valley Road, Devonshire, approximately 100 meters north of the junction with Jubilee Road. The lone female occupant was extricated out of the vehicle and was transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital with injuries that do not appear to be life-threatening.



Sudden Death of 50 Year Old American Visitor Frank Marzocca

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 50 year old Frank Marzocca and extends sincere condolences to his family and friends. Around 3:30pm Wednesday, February 21st police and first responders were dispatched to a reported medical emergency involving Mr. Marzocca outside the Unfinished Church in St. George’s.



Sudden Death of American Visitor [Updated]

At approximately 3:30pm today (Wednesday) a medical emergency was reported. The incident occurred outside the Unfinished Church in St. George's. It appears that a 50 year old male tourist from New York was sightseeing when he suddenly collapsed. He was attended to by members of the public and his family until first responders arrived.



Sudden Death of 54 Year Old Tyrone Edwards

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 54 year old Tyrone Edwards and extends sincere condolences to his family and friends. Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service personnel as well as ambulance personnel responded to a medical emergency in Dockyard involving Mr. Edwards Saturday morning (February 10th).



Sudden Death of 81 Year Old Virginia Smith [Updated]

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 88 81 year old Virginia Smith and extends sincere condolences to her family and friends. Ms. Smith was found in an unresponsive state inside the Cedar Avenue, Pembroke residence where she lived, around 7am Saturday (February 10th). She was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene by the attending doctor.



Woman Found Dead [Updated]

Police and EMTs responded to an incident that took place on Cedar Ave. in Pembroke at 7am this morning (Saturday). Upon police arrival it was ascertained that an unresponsive woman was found in her residence. An on call doctor was notified and her death was certified. No further information will be given until the next of kin has been notified.



Recent Supreme Court Ruling Provides Important Opportunities for Learning

Acting Commissioner of Police Paul Wright – The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) takes very seriously the important role that it plays in the safeguarding of children. The ruling handed down by the learned Judge found that the Department of Child and Family Services made the decision that a young child be removed from the care of his parents for his safety on 3rd May 2017 and relied on the BPS to effect the removal. However, the ruling also found that the removal of the young child by the BPS was an unreasonable exercise of its discretion under section 41 of the Children’s Act 1998.



Two Local Passengers Arrested at L.F. Wade International Airport

On Sunday 4th February 2018, detectives arrested a 47 year old Bermudian female and a 54 year old Bermudian male on their arrival back to Bermuda from the U.K. They were arrested on suspicion of importing controlled drugs into the island. A full investigation into this matter is being conducted by the Organised & Economic Crime Department – Drugs Unit, with the assistance of the Department of Customs.



Altercation at the Bus Terminal [Updated]

Police responded to a report of an altercation that took place at the Bus Terminal in the City of Hamilton at approximately 11:30am today (Monday). It appears that two men were in an altercation and one of the men brandished a rock and the other male brandished a bladed article. Both men as a result of the incident were taken to the hospital, with one man being treated for head injuries and the other being treated for neck and head injuries, that at this juncture appear to be life threatening.



Robbery at Belvin's Variety in Smith's Parish [Updated]

Police responded to a report of a robbery that took place today (Sunday) at Belvin's Middle Road in Smith's parish at around 5pm. It appears that a male walked into the store and stole money out of the cash register. He then left on a waiting motorcycle ridden by a male accomplice. It is believed that the suspects left on a motorcycle traveling in a westerly direction on Middle Road. No one was injured and it appears that no weapon was brandished.



Investigation Into Alleged Sexual Assault at Royal Bermuda Regiment

On Sunday 21st January police received a report from the Royal Bermuda Regiment (RBR) that a sexual assault had occurred on the grounds of the RBR the night before. A female soldier was reported to have been assaulted by a male soldier. A man has been arrested in connection with the complaint and he was later released on police bail while the investigation continues.



Altercation on South Road

The Bermuda Police Service is reporting an incident that took place today (Friday) on South Road in the Paget/Warwick area at around 7:15am. Details are unclear but it appears that an altercation between two males took place resulting in both men being taken to the hospital. A 36 year old male received lacerations to his face, arm and neck while a 37 year old male received an injury to the back of his head.



BPS Officers Recognised for BVI Efforts

Overturned Car in Southampton [Updated]

At About 8:44pm (Friday) police and other first responders attended a report of a road traffic collision outside Henry VIII Restaurant on South  Road in Southampton, where a car over turned. It appears that a car was traveling west on South Road when the driver of the car apparently maneuvered around a pedestrian resulting in driver hitting two parked cars and flipping over.

Traffic Advisory: 2018 KPMG Front Street Mile - The motoring public is reminded that traffic diversions and parking restrictions will be in effect for the 2018 KPMG Front Street Mile running races on Friday night. The event is part of the Bermuda Marathon Weekend taking place from Friday, January 12th until Sunday, January 14th.



Retirement of Commissioner Michael A. DeSilva

Commissioner of Police Michael A. DeSilva – It was not an easy decision to retire and leave a career of over 32 years in the making. I am passionate about policing and I have dedicated my entire adult life to public service. I am grateful to all of my colleagues, past and present, for their support and commitment during my tenure. It has been an honour and a privilege to lead so many dedicated and skilled police officers, support staff, reserves, and cadets. I am proud of the significant impact we have made in helping to reduce violence, but there is more to be done. After 8 years as Commissioner it is the right time to let someone else lead the BPS from its senior post, and continue the mission of “Making Bermuda Safer.”



Death of Reserve Officer PC Dawn Jeffrey (Darby)

It is with deep sadness that the Bermuda Police Service and the Bermuda Reserve Police report the death of our colleague, PC 1181 Dawn Jeffrey (Darby) of the Bermuda Reserve Police. Dawn passed away earlier today at the hospital, at the age of 55. PC 1181 Dawn Darby joined the Bermuda Reserve Police on November 1994. She was consistent with her service to the Bermuda Reserve Police and has spent her whole police career attached to the Western Division. PC Darby sat and passed the promotion exams in 1998 and spent the following two years as an Acting Sergeant. She was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2003 and thereafter served several periods as an Acting Inspector.



Submerged Car Located in Waters Off Astwood Park [Updated]

At 10:22am Saturday police and other first responders attended a report of a car submerged in the waters off of Astwood Park/Cove. Presently the area has been cordoned off whilst officers assess the situation. We will keep you apprised of any new developments.
