Death of 66 Year Old Man in Pedal Cycle Collision Last Saturday Night

The Bermuda Police Service can confirm the death of the 66 year old Devonshire man who was seriously injured when the pedal cycle he was riding collided with a motorcyclist around 11:50pm Saturday, June 23rd on Middle Road in Devonshire near the junction with Vesey Street. Inquiries continue and any witnesses that have not already come forward are still asked to call the main police telephone number 295-0011. No further information on this incident will be given until notification of family.



Sudden Death of Mr. Ronald Lightbourne

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 71 year old Ronald Lightbourne and extends sincere condolences to his family and friends. Mr. Lightbourne was found in an unresponsive state in the swimming pool of a Forest Hill Drive, Warwick home by his caregiver around 11am Tuesday, June 26th.



Motorcyclist Serioulsy Injured in St. John's Road, Pembroke Collision [Updated]

Police and first responders attended a report of a road traffic collision that took place around 10:35am today (Wednesday) on St. John's Road in Pembroke. It appears that a male on a motorcycle was traveling west on St John’s Road when he lost control of his motorcycle and collided with a car traveling in the opposite direction.



Three Hurt in Southampton Collision Treated & Discharged

Around 6:45am today (June 26th) police and fellow first responders attended a reported collision involving a motorcyclist and a pedal cycle rider on South Road in Southampton, near the junction with Turtle Bay Lane. It appears that the female motorcyclist with a male pillion passenger and the male pedal cycle rider were traveling in the westbound lane of South Road when the collision occurred.



Pedal Cyclist Seriously Injured in Collision With Motorcyclist [Updated]

Police and first responders attended a report of a road traffic collision that took place on Middle Road in Devonshire and Vesey Street at 11:48pm on Saturday night. Details are still emerging but it appears that a man on a pedal cycle was exiting Vesey Street when he rode into the path of a man on a motorcycle traveling west on Middle Road.

I’m delighted to be in Bermuda and I’ve spent the past week engaging with staff, speaking to front line officers, supervisors, understanding their views and their needs in regards to the Bermuda Police Service – and making it the best it can be. Police Vehicle Crash in Devonshire [Updated]

Around 4:30pm today (June 20th) police and fellow first responders were dispatched to a reported single vehicle crash in the Middle Road, Upland Street Devonshire area. Details are limited at this time. However, initial information indicates that a police van struck a pillar. Apparently the driver of the police vehicle was hurt, but his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.



Reported Two Vehicle Collision in St. George's [Updated]

Police and first responders attended a report of a road traffic collision that took place on Mullet Bay Road in the area of Rocky Hill Park in St. George's at 6:40pm (Friday). Details are still emerging but it appears that a collision occurred between a driver of a car and a man on a motorcycle. The rider of the motorcycle was taken to the hospital via ambulance and his condition is listed as serious.



American Visitor Dies in Horseshoe Bay Incident [Updated]

Police and first responders attended a report of a medical emergency at Horseshoe Bay Beach in Southampton at 2:26pm today (Thursday). Upon police arrival it was ascertained that a male ran into breathing difficulty at the beach, resulting in lifeguards performing CPR. The victim was subsequently taken to the hospital via ambulance where at this time his condition is considered critical.



Sudden Death of 62 Year Old American Visitor Yvonne Aites

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 62 year old American cruise ship visitor Yvonne Aites and extends sincere condolences to her family and friends. Ms. Aites, from Massachusetts, apparently fell off of a Jet Ski into the water near Cambridge Beaches, Sandys parish Monday morning (June 4th) during a Jet Ski tour and became unconscious. Despite lifesaving efforts on the water which continued as she was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance, Ms. Aites was later pronounced dead.



Marine Jet Ski Accident - Unresponsive Female Visitor Pronounced Dead [Updated]

At about 11:05am today (Monday) police and other first responders attended a report of an unresponsive female who fell off of a Jet Ski whilst on a Jet Ski tour in the area of Cambridge Beaches in Sandys. Details are still emerging but it appears that a 62 year old female cruise ship visitor apparently fell from her Jet Ski and into the water, losing consciousness.



Reported Two Vehicle Collision in Paget [Updated]

Police and Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service responded to a report of a collision that took place around 10:14pm tonight (Sunday) on Point Finger Road in Paget outside of the hospital. Details are still emerging but it appears that a car collided with a motorcycle and as a result, members of the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service used extricating equipment to lift the car off of the male victim who then was conveyed to the hospital where the rider of the cycle is listed in serious condition at this time.



2018 Bermuda Day Holiday Weekend Policing

Vehicles Discovered Vandalised in the West Park Lane Pembroke Area

Around 4:30am Saturday, May 19th police officers responded to a report of a man shouting and causing a disturbance in the North Shore Road, West Park Lane Pembroke area.  Officers conducted a search for the individual, but he was not located and had apparently left the area prior to police arrival. However, a number of vehicles were discovered in the vicinity with windshield damage – as well as a property with a damaged mailbox and another property with damaged garden items.



Man Arrested After Reported Altercation at Front Street Bar

Around 12:20am Sunday, May 20th police officers responded to a reported altercation on Front Street in the City of Hamilton. It appears that at least two people were involved in a scuffle at The Dog House bar, which ended up on Front Street. One man has been arrested in connection with this incident and a court appearance is anticipated in due course.



Reported Explosion at Marl Lane, Warwick Residence

The Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service as well as the Bermuda Police Service attended a report of an explosion at a residence on Marl Lane in Warwick (off of Cobbs Hill Road) at 12:41pm today. Presently the scene is being processed by police as well as fire personnel. We will update the public with information as it becomes available.



Search Warrants Executed in Sandys Parish

Today the Bermuda Police Service executed warrants in the Boaz Island area of Sandys in connection with an ongoing firearms investigation. As a result, 3 men have been arrested and taken into police custody, whilst the investigation is advancing.



Investigation Into Confirmed Firearm Incident Outside Docksider Pub

Detective Chief Inspector Na’imah Astwood, Serious Crime Department – Good Afternoon.  The Bermuda Police Service can confirm that around 1:10am today (Wednesday, May 16th) a firearm incident occurred outside The Docksider Pub and Restaurant, Front Street, City of Hamilton. An investigation regarding the circumstances is currently underway. The Serious Crime Unit is heading up inquiries, with Detective Sergeant Jason Smith and Detective Sergeant Dean Martin leading the investigative team regarding this confirmed firearm incident.



Autopsy Confirms 4th Road Fatality of 2018: 84 Year Old Lois Simmons

The Bermuda Police Service can confirm that the autopsy of 84 year old Lois Simmons has been completed. Results verify Ms. Simmons died of injuries caused when the car she was driving struck a tree in the vicinity of Barnes Corner, Southampton around 4:30pm Friday, May 4th. As such, Ms. Simmons is officially the fourth road fatality of 2018.



Police Officer Arrested

Discipline Officer, Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police Martin Weekes - A 33 year old Smith's Parish resident who is a serving police constable, was arrested today by officers of the Organised, Economic Crime Department on suspicion of offences under the Bribery Act 2016. An investigation has commenced and further enquiries will follow. The Bermuda Police Service wishes to make it clear that it takes any allegation of bribery and corruption among its officers and staff extremely seriously and that all allegations will be thoroughly investigated and dealt with according to law.
