Man Arrested in Connection with Jen-Naya Simmons Road Fatality

A 38 year old man has been arrested in connection with the fatal road collision that claimed the life of 18 year old Jen-Naya Simmons on 15th July, 2018. He is currently in police custody as the investigation continues.



No Roadside Sobriety Checkpoints This Weekend

Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police Martin Weekes – The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) advises that due to an administrative error by the BPS, regarding the publication of the road sobriety checkpoint notice, the road sobriety checkpoints specified in that notice will not be conducted this weekend. The public will note that an Official Gazette Notice was featured yesterday (September 10th) and today (September 11th) advising that road sobriety checkpoints would be conducted in Paget and Devonshire on September 14th, 15th, and 16th. However due to this error in the Notice these checkpoints will not take place.



Motorcyclist Seriously Injured in Hamilton Parish Collision [Updated]

Around 9:10pm Sunday, September 9th police and fellow first responders were dispatched to a reported collision on North Shore Road in Hamilton parish near the junction with Commonland Point Road. It appears that a motorcyclist traveling east collided with two cars being driven in the opposite direction as well as a wall. The rider, said to be a 40 year old man, is believed to have sustained serious injuries and was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance.



Reported Missing Person: Jamil Simmons [Located]

The Bermuda Police Service is appealing for the public’s assistance in locating 38 year old Jamil Simmons. Mr. Simmons – who was last seen wearing a black T-shirt, black shorts just past the knee and black shoes – is described as dark complexioned, approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall of medium build, weighing about 210 pounds with short cut black hair. He was apparently last seen in the pre-dawn hours of Wednesday morning (September 5th) in the Fort Hill Road, Middle Road Devonshire area.



Murder of 25 Year Old Danshun Swann

Acting Detective Inspector Jason Smith – Good Afternoon. Sadly, the Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the identity of the fatal stabbing victim as 25 year old Danshun Swann. At 12:10am today (Monday, 27th August) several 911 calls were received regarding a large fight involving a group of males outside Southampton Rangers Sports Club.



Six Men Arrested in Connection With Recent Robberies

Commissioner of Police Mr. Stephen M. Corbishley – Thank you ladies and gentlemen. An update since my briefing yesterday. I’m pleased to report to you that in the past 24 hours six persons have been arrested and are now in the custody of the Bermuda Police Service. We believe that they are involved in the robberies that I touched upon yesterday, particularly the one at Somerset Bridge and also the one at Frog Lane.



Man Arrested in Connection With Assault on Woman in Warwick

Around 12:10am today (August 21st) police officers and ambulance personnel responded to a residence in the Tribe Road #7 Warwick area, following a reported assault at a nearby Lemarc Estate, Warwick home. A 29 year old woman received injuries to her head and arm in the incident – apparently caused by a bladed article – but remained conscious and alert. She was transported via ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment of her wounds and later discharged.



Press Conference Regarding Recent Robberies [Updated]

The purpose is to make an appeal to the public around a concerning crime trend we’ve seen develop over the past couple of weeks. So far we’ve had nine robberies involving motorcycles normally involving two males described as black males on mopeds committing nine offences.

Murder of Taylor Matthew Grier (Speaking notes of Acting Chief Inspector Arthur Glasford) At around 10:00pm on Friday, July 27, 2018, whilst Court Street was bustling with individuals enjoying a beautiful evening, the calm of the night was interrupted when two men on a motorcycle wearing dark clothing and full face visor helmets descended south on Tills Hill in the area of Elliot Street. The gunman got off the motorcycle and approached a group of men congregating in the area and began to open fire.



Fatal Crash on North Shore Road Early Sunday Morning

Police and other first responders attended a report of a road traffic collision that took place on North Shore Road in Hamilton Parish at 3:29am Sunday morning. It appears that an 18 year old woman was traveling east on North Shore Road when she lost control of her motorcycle and crashed.



Visible Police Presence at Paradise Lakes for Peak Summer Months

The area in the Great Sound commonly known as Paradise Lakes is traditionally a ‘raft up’ area for members of the public in the boating community during the summer months. After an increasing number of reports regarding anti-social behaviour and the dangerous use of watercraft in that area so far this summer boating season, the Bermuda Police Service Marine Unit will provide a highly visible police presence – particularly during the weekends – to deter any undesirable activity as well as to provide reassurance to the boating public and nearby island residents.



Reported Missing 16 Year Old Syhon Akinstall

Police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating 16 year old Syhon Akinstall of Pembroke who was last seen on Tuesday afternoon (July 10th). He is described as 5 feet 9 inches tall, 150 pounds, with a medium brown complexion and medium length black hair. Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 295-0011.



Two Motorcyclists Hurt in Paget Collision [Updated]

Around 5am today (July 7th) police and fellow first responders were dispatched to a reported collision involving two motorcycles on South Road in Paget, near the junction with Southcote Road. It appears that the two motorcyclists were traveling in opposite directions along South Road when the collision occurred.



Operations at Criminal Records Office Temporarily Suspended

The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) would like to advise the public that some recent precautionary tests have returned positive results regarding the presence of asbestos containing material amongst some files within filing cabinets in the Criminal Records Office. The safety, health and wellbeing of our staff and that of the public remains a main priority for the BPS.



Reported Two Vehicle Collision in Paget Near Elbow Beach [Updated]

A few minutes after 10:00am, police and first responders attended a report of a road traffic collision that took place on South Road in Paget 10 meters east of the Elbow Beach entrance. It appears that a car was traveling west and a motorcycle with a female rider and a pillion passenger was traveling in an easterly direction when it appears that the rider of the cycle collided with the car. As a result, the rider and her passenger were taken to the hospital with the rider suffering serious leg and foot injuries and the pillion passenger appears to have non-life-threatening injuries.



Man Arrested After Incident at Cottage Hill, Hamilton Parish Residence

Police responded to a report of an incident that took place on Cottage Hill Road in Hamilton Parish at 5:22pm. It appears that a 34-year-old man had a bladed article and began to threaten residents. Tactical units were called and surrounded the house where the man was present. Subsequently, police gained entry into the house and the man was taken into custody at 8:10pm without incident.



Sudden Death of 74 Year Old American Visitor Dolores Burke

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 74 year old American cruise ship visitor Dolores Burke and extends sincere condolences to her family and friends. It appears that Ms. Burke, from Florida, was snorkeling with a tour group near Hawkins Island around 11am Thursday, June 28th when she got into difficulty.



Death of Swimmer [Updated]

Marine Police responded to a report of an incident that took place in the waters off of Hawkins Island today at 11:09am. It appears that a female tourist was swimming when she fell into difficulty in the water and had to be taken out by onlookers. She was then conveyed by a police boat to Barrs Park, where she was met by the ambulance which subsequently conveyed the woman to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where she was later pronounced dead. No further information will be given until the next of kin has been notified.



Navell Darrell & William Moniz 5th & 6th Road Fatalities of 2018 [Updated]

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the deaths of 59 year old Mr. Navell Darrell as well as 66 year old Mr. William Moniz – the fifth and sixth road fatalities of 2018 – and extends sincere condolences to their respective families and friends. Mr. Darrell was seriously injured when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a car driven in the opposite direction along St. John’s Road in Pembroke near the junction with Berkeley Road around 10:35am Wednesday, June 27th. He was rushed to hospital via ambulance but pronounced dead later that morning.



Reported Single Vehicle Car Crash in Sandys Parish [Updated]

Police responded to a report of a single vehicle collision that took place at 4:21pm. It appears that a 75 year old female was driving her car on Middle Road in Sandys (Hog Bay Level) when she lost control of her car, resulting in the car hitting a curb and turning over. The woman was taken to the hospital where her condition is not believed to be life threatening.
