Two Car Collision: North Shore Road, Smith's Parish [Updated]

Police and first responders attended a report of a road traffic collision that took place on North Shore Road in Smith's in the area of Police Beach. Details are still emerging but it appears that two cars collided. It does not appear that anyone was injured, however, traffic is being diverted away from the collision while the scene is being processed.
Update: Sunday, October 21st - Details remain limited at this time regarding the two car collision that occurred on North Shore Road in Smith’s parish near the junction with Jennings Road (Police Beach area) around 9:20pm Saturday, October 20th.
Reported Serious Two Vehicle Collision South Road, Warwick [Updated]

Around 10:15pm Friday, October 19th police and fellow first responders were dispatched to a reported collision at the junction of South Road and Warwick Lane in Warwick involving a car and a motorcycle.
Initial information indicates that the motorcyclist involved was seriously injured.
An update on the injured male rider’s medical condition is anticipated in due course.
Gunshots Reported in Pembroke

Police responded to several 911 calls regarding gun shots being heard in the central Pembroke area (Curving Avenue, Rambling Lane, Middle Town and Happy Valley areas) at 9:40pm.
A firearms incident was declared and police have been actively canvassing the area trying to identify a scene.
At this point it does not appear that anyone has been injured and police are appealing for anyone who might have information on this incident to contact police on 295-0011.
Deputy Commissioner Paul Wright Announces His Retirement Today

Deputy Commissioner of Police Paul Wright today formally announced his intentions of retiring from the Bermuda Police Service after 34 years of service. Mr. Wright came to Bermuda from the UK after serving 6 years with the Humberside Police and has served in a wide variety of policing posts locally such as Community Policing, Criminal Investigations, Special Branch, Intelligence and Serious Crime.
Tenth Road Fatality of 2018: 49 Year Old Marco Bowen

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 49 year old Mr. Marco Bowen and extends sincere condolences to his family and friends.
Mr. Bowen was seriously injured when the motorcycle he was riding was involved in a collision with a water truck as both vehicles attempted to negotiate the round-a-bout at the junction of Barkers Hill and North Shore Road in Devonshire around 5:30pm Monday, October 8th.

Police and first responders attended a report of a road traffic collision that took place on North Shore Road in Devonshire right at the Barkers Hill round-a-bout at 5:33pm today (Monday).
Details are still emerging but it appears that a male on a motorcycle collided with a water truck.
The male was conveyed to the hospital via ambulance where he is listed in critical condition.
Single Vehicle Van Crash in Pembroke Causes Power Outage

First responders attended a report of a single vehicle road traffic collision that took place Spanish Point Road Cove Point Lane in Pembroke at around 9pm tonight (Sunday).
It appears that a male driver of a van collided with a utility pole resulting in a power outage in the area.
No one was injured. BELCO is currently in the area and are in the process of restoring power.
Nine People Arrested During Road Sobriety Checkpoints

Police are reminding the public not to drink and drive. If you must drink always have a designated driver.
Last night as a result of the road sobriety checkpoints 9 people were arrested.
As per public notification the police will continue the checkpoints tonight.
Snake in Sandys Parish

At 6pm on Friday police received a report of a snake outside of a residence in Sandys. The snake was a non venomous juvenile Boa Constrictor.
The snake was later destroyed by a concerned citizen.
Man Arrested After Attempted Armed Robbery at Game Time St. George's [Updated]

Police responded to a report of an attempted armed robbery that took place at 1:30pm at Game Time on Water Street in St. George’s, where a man entered the establishment brandishing a bladed article and demanded money.
Staff members wrestled the suspect to the ground but he managed to flee on foot, empty handed.
There were no reported injuries.
Bermuda Police Service Welcomes Mrs. Fiona Knight

Commissioner of Police Mr. Stephen Corbishley welcomed Mrs. Fiona Knight to the Bermuda Police Service today (October 1st). She will be formally attached to the Vulnerable Persons Unit, where her expertise will be utilised around investigations, vulnerable persons and disclosure matters.
Fiona is a former Detective Sergeant from Cheshire Constabulary in the U.K. with over 30 years of policing experience, having worked in Major Crime/CID and Safeguarding Units.
Her last few years whilst serving in Cheshire was as a Detective Sergeant on the Strategic Public Protection Unit in charge of rape and serious sexual offences, investigating serious sexual offences and maintaining and writing current policies.
Missing 76 Year Old Man [Located]

Police are seeking the public’s assistance in locating 76 year old Thomas Hines of Pembroke.
He was last seen in the Town of St. George on Sunday wearing a black shirt, rust colored shorts, black socks and a black hat.
He is described as a white male with gray hair fully receded in the middle, 5 feet 10 inches tall and of a slim build.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 295-0011.
Update: Please be advised the missing 76 year old man has been found. We would like to thank the public for your assistance in this matter.
Promotions to Chief Inspector

The Commissioner of Police is pleased to announce the promotions of Robert Cardwell, Arthur Glasford and Grant Tomkins to the post of Chief Inspector.
All three were promoted by Commissioner Stephen Corbishley in front of family, friends and colleagues at a ceremony held in the Police Recreation Club hall, Prospect Devonshire 5:30pm Friday (September 21st).
Man Shot in Leg: Roberts Avenue, Devonshire Firearm Incident [Updated]

At 11:47pm on Thursday, police responded to a report of a firearms incident that took place on Roberts Avenue in Devonshire.
Upon police arrival it was ascertained that a 28 year old male was shot in his leg and subsequently taken via ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he is being treated for injuries that do not appear to be life threatening.
Promotion of Na’imah Astwood to Superintendent

The Commissioner of Police is pleased to announce the promotion of Na’imah Astwood to the post of Superintendent. Mrs. Astwood has over 24 years of policing experience and is the highest-ranking female police officer in the Bermuda Police Service (BPS).
She was promoted by Commissioner Corbishley in front of family and senior colleagues on Monday afternoon (September 17th).
Superintendent Astwood joined the BPS in 1994 after serving as a Police Cadet. She then went on to Recruit Foundation Course 51 where she received the Academic Award.
She has worked in Central Uniform, Central CID, Roads Policing Unit, Task Force, Service Delivery Improvement Unit, Professional Conduct Unit, Special Branch and the Serious Crime Department.
Sudden Death of 61 Year Old Melvin Anthony Symons

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 61 year old Melvin Anthony Symons and extends sincere condolences to his family and friends.
Mr. Symons was found in an unresponsive state around 5:20am Sunday, September 16th in the Controversy Lane, Pembroke area and subsequently pronounced dead at that location by an on call doctor.
Death of Mazhye Burchall

The Bermuda Police Service can confirm the death of 20 year old Mazhye Burchall who died as a result of a road traffic collision that took place at 3:55am on Saturday morning on South Road in Paget, 100 yards west of the Trimingham Hill roundabout.
Mazhye was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance but was later pronounced dead.
Serious Road Traffic Collision [Updated]

Police and other first responders attended a report of a serious road traffic collision that took place on South Road in Paget, just 100 meters west of the South Roundabout at 3:55am Saturday morning.
Details are still unfolding but it appears that the male rider of a motorcycle was traveling on South Road in Paget when it appears that he lost control of his motorcycle and collided with a wall in the area of the Railway Trail.
