911 Now Operational, Work Continues to Restore Full Service [Updated]

The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) can confirm that service to the 911 emergency telephone number has been restored. However, technicians continue working to restore service to the main police telephone number 295-0011. A power outage incident at the BPS Data Centre this morning caused 911 and 295-0011 to fail.



Investigation Underway After Burglary at Vera P. Card in St. George’s

Thieves gained entry to the Vera P. Card store on Water Street in St. George’s around 3am Saturday, May 11th and stole a quantity of jewellery. The suspects, described as three males wearing dark coloured clothing, made good their escape on foot shortly after the burglary. An investigation into the incident is underway and witnesses or members of the public – particularly any passing motorists – that saw suspicious activity in the Water Street, York Street St. George’s area between 2:20am and 3am Saturday are encouraged to call Detective Constable Seymour Foote on 247-1154 or 717-2282.



Female Motorcyclist Injured in Collision With Police Vehicle [Updated]

Around 12:20am Sunday, May 12th a collision occurred involving a police vehicle and a motorcyclist on King Street near the junction with Reid Street, in the City of Hamilton. Early information indicates that the collision occurred as the police vehicle pursued one motorcyclist along King Street, but struck a second motorcyclist that was traveling along Reid Street. The first motorcyclist made good their escape.



Second Group Meeting Held With Management of Liquor Licenced Premises

The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) recently held a meeting 2pm Monday, 6th May 2019 with the management of liquor licenced premises at the Police Recreation Club in Prospect, Devonshire – with invitations sent in advance to the relevant sports clubs for their attendance and input. Approximately 35 persons attended – including representatives from sports clubs throughout the island as well as restaurant and bar establishments.



Renewed Scam Advisory: Ignore & Delete Obviously Deceptive E-mails

The Bermuda Police Service is once again advising all residents to remain vigilant regarding phone calls, e-mails and other correspondence from unknown persons that attempt to obtain personal information and other sensitive data – or even attempt to extort money. An example of a popular e-mail scam is provided below. So far, recent scams of this type reported to police have not resulted in any financial losses. However, it is strongly recommended that senior citizens continue to be especially vigilant.



Reported Two Vehicle Collision on Harrington Sound Road [Updated]

A collision has been reported on Harrington Sound Road in Smith’s parish in the vicinity of Tom Moore’s Tavern. Early information indicates that a car and a van were involved, with any injuries believed to be non-life threatening at this time. Traffic diversions are currently in effect and motorists are advised to take alternate routes if possible until further notice.



Sudden Death of 69 Year Old David Aitken

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 69 year old David Aitken and extends sincere condolences to his family and friends. Mr. Aitken was found in an unresponsive state inside a car around 12:40pm Tuesday, April 30th at a Hidden Lane, Pembroke property by a family member. He was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance but sadly, later pronounced dead.



Sudden Death of 69 Year Old Man in Pembroke [Updated]

Around 12:40pm today (April 30th) police and fellow first responders were dispatched to a report of an unresponsive man in a car at a Hidden Lane, Pembroke property. The 69 year old man was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance but later pronounced dead.



23 Year old Bermudian Victorious at Charity Canadian Police Boxing Event

The involvement of the Bermuda Police Service (BPS) in the sanctioned ‘Battle of the Badges II’ charity boxing event (https://badgebattle.info/) could not have ended on a better note, as 23 year old Dejon Benjamin representing Police Gym out-boxed his more experienced opponent John McMullan representing the home town Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) in Burlington, Ontario, Canada Friday night (April 26th). Their fight has been deemed the fight of the night with both boxers exhibiting great ring craft and power punches. But it was young Benjamin whose power punches and ring craft won the votes of the home town judges, who unanimously awarded him the fight.



Woman in Assault Video Encouraged to Make Official Report [Updated]

The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) is aware of the video circulating that shows a well known male member of our community on a pedal cycle assaulting a woman in a car. We would encourage that woman to make a formal complaint to the BPS thus allowing us to take action.



Help Protect Vulnerable People: Report Suspected ‘Cuckooing’

The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) has recently been made aware of a criminal enterprise occurring in Bermuda known as ‘cuckooing’, whereby offenders use violence and/or other unlawful means to target the homes of vulnerable people, utilising these properties for distributing illegal drugs, or to plan other serious crimes. Members of the community most susceptible to ‘cuckooing’ are those suffering from drug/alcohol addiction, mental or physical health problems, our seniors, as well as those living in poverty with limited financial resources.



Two Bermuda Reserve Police Officers Honoured at Annual General Meeting

The Bermuda Reserve Police (BRP) held their Annual General Meeting last night (Thursday, April 18th) and two awards were given: Reserve of the Year and The Dawn Darby Award (for most volunteered hours in 2018). Reserve Constable 1551 Samantha Savoury received the Reserve of the Year Award for her consistent and dedicated service, which goes above and beyond that expected of a BRP officer.



Reported Armed Robbery of Man in Southampton [Updated]

Around 2:30pm today (April 18th) police officers responded to a report of a disturbance that turned out to be an armed robbery that occurred in the area of Rockaway Road, Southampton. Details are still emerging, but it appears that a man sitting on a wall outside the Port Royal Gas Station was approached by two other men, with one of those men apparently brandishing a bladed article.



Fourth Road Fatality of 2019: 21 Year Old Antoine Seaman [Updated]

Sergeant Dorian Astwood, Roads Policing Unit – The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 21-year-old Antoine Seaman of Granaway Drive in Southampton and we extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends. We are sensitive to the fact that this fatality took place in the early hours of this morning and Antoine’s community are still coming to grips with this most unfortunate situation.



Temporary Closure Order Issued to Southampton Rangers Sports Club

Following two anti-social incidents this past weekend, the Bermuda Police Service has exercised its authority under the Liquor Licence Act Section 51A to close Southampton Rangers Sports Club from 12am Sunday, April 14th until 12am Monday, April 15th. Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police James Howard, who is in charge of the Tactical Operations Division, issued the temporary closure order this afternoon (April 12th).



Two Recent Anti-Social Incidents at Southampton Rangers Sports Club

Detectives are currently conducting inquiries regarding two recent incidents at Southampton Rangers Sports Club – one on the evening of Friday, April 5th and the other on the evening of Sunday, April 7th. In the first incident a 22 year old man sustained lacerations to his hand around 11:55pm Friday, after apparently being cut by a broken bottle wielded during an altercation at the establishment.



Police Activity at Dellwood Middle School & CedarBridge Academy Today

Police officers attended Dellwood Middle School and CedarBridge Academy today (Wednesday, April 10th) after Dellwood and CedarBridge school officials reported confiscating a quantity of e-cigarette type devices that were allegedly being sold by one student at each school to their respective peers. Inquiries are underway regarding this matter and anyone with relevant information is asked to call the main police telephone number 295-0011.



Two Male Teens Arrested in Connection With Animal Cruelty Video

A 19 year old man and a 16 year old boy (since confirmed to be 17 years old) have been arrested this afternoon (April 9th) in connection with the appalling video circulating on social media showing acts of cruelty carried out on lambs in Sandys parish. Both remain in police custody at this time. The Bermuda Police Service would like to thank the public for their assistance so far and continue to appeal for persons with relevant information to come forward, as additional individuals are being sought regarding this matter.



Roberto Marques Ordered to Forfeit $179,240

Acting Superintendent Nicolas Pedro: "In October 2017, Roberto Marques [a Customs officer at the time] was convicted with another man for supplying cocaine along with other offences. On Thursday 4th April 2019 in the Supreme Court of Bermuda, Justice Carlisle Greaves presided over a confiscation hearing for Mr. Marques. The Financial Crime Unit of the BPS presented evidence that found that Marques had benefitted from his criminal activity over a six-year period valued at over $255,000.



Third Road Fatality of 2019: 51 Year Old Anthony Shawn Smith

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 51 year old Mr. Anthony Shawn Smith and extends sincere condolences to his family and friends. Mr. Smith – understood to be a Pembroke resident – was seriously injured when the motorcycle he was riding east crashed over an embankment on Palmetto Road, Devonshire between Dock Hill and Parsons Lane around 3:40am Tuesday, March 26th.
