Two Senior Police Officers to Attend UK Strategic Command Course

Two senior Bermuda Police Service officers have been successful in their application to undertake the UK College of Policing’s prestigious Strategic Command Course (SCC).
Assistant Commissioner Antoine Daniels and Superintendent Na’imah Astwood will attend the SCC programme from January to March 2020, following the footsteps of Deputy Commissioner Darrin Simons who undertook the SCC in 2019.
Firearm Incident in Cashew City Road, St. George’s Area [Updated]

Around 10:25pm Thursday, October 3rd police received a report of an injured man in the Cashew City Road, St. George’s area.
Details are limited at this time.
However, it appears that the 64 year old man involved sustained a gunshot wound to his shoulder.
Unaccounted for Westgate Prisoner Apprehended [Updated]

Commissioner of Police Stephen Corbishley can confirm that Bermuda Police Service and Department of Corrections personnel conducted a joint search for an unaccounted for inmate from the Westgate Correctional Facility earlier this afternoon (September 30th).
The 29 year old male inmate has since been located in Southampton and is currently in police custody.
Nicholas Pedro Promoted to Detective Superintendent

At a 4:30pm ceremony held at Police Headquarters in Prospect Devonshire on Friday, September 27th Detective Chief Inspector Nicholas Pedro was promoted to the rank of Detective Superintendent by Commissioner of Police Stephen Corbishley.
Acting Deputy Commissioner Darrin Simons, Assistant Commissioner Antoine Daniels, Assistant Commissioner Martin Weekes, family, friends and colleagues were also in attendance at the Police Recreation Club hall to congratulate Mr. Pedro on his achievement.
Detective Superintendent Pedro joined the Bermuda Police Service in 1993, having completed University with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science.
Yuval Abraham Apprehended in Greece

Acting Detective Superintendent Nicholas Pedro (Crime Division) – The Bermuda Police Service can confirm that following an international appeal for assistance, Mr. Yuval Abraham was arrested in Athens, Greece.
He is being held in custody pending a hearing on extradition to Bermuda.

Reported Serious Collision on St. Mary’s Road in Warwick [Updated]

Around 9:15pm Tuesday, September 24th police, Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service and ambulance personnel responded to a reported serious two vehicle collision on St. Mary’s Road in Warwick near the junction with Hillview Road involving a car and a motorcyclist.
It appears that the vehicles involved were traveling in opposite directions at the time and early information indicates that the male rider sustained head injuries.
Serving Police Officer Suspended From Duty

The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) can confirm that a serving police officer was suspended today in relation to serious allegations that include unlawful access and sharing of police information. This follows the suspension of another police officer for similar behaviour earlier this year.
Commissioner Corbishley states: “Whilst these situations relate to allegations that may or may not be proved, the fact that suspensions have been actioned reflects both the serious nature of matters alleged as well as the necessity to protect the information we possess.
BPS Welcomes New Corporate Communications Manager

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 52 year old Shaune Simmons and extends sincere condolences to her family and friends.
Police, Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service and ambulance personnel responded to a Cheriton Lane, Pembroke residence around 8:55pm Thursday, September 19th where CPR was being performed on Ms. Simmons by a relative.
Confirmed Firearm Incident on Court Street: No Reported Injuries

Around 9:50pm Saturday, September 14th gunshots were fired on Court Street in the City of Hamilton.
Early information suggests that a lone gunman approached a small group of men outside Spinning Wheel nightclub and opened fire.
Forensic evidence at the scene confirms a firearm was discharged.
29 Year Old Male Motorcyclist Seriously Injured in Collision With Car

Around 1:45am Saturday, September 14th a reported serious collision occurred at the junction of Cedar Avenue, St. John’s Road and Marsh Folly Road in Pembroke involving a car and a motorcyclist.
Details remain limited at this time.
However, it is understood that the rider involved, said to be a 29 year old Pembroke man, was transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment of head injuries and serious injuries to both legs.

It appears that around 1:45pm Thursday, September 5th Mrs. Kopp and her husband were riding separate rental scooters west along North Shore Road in Hamilton parish near the junction with Cottage Hill Road – with Mrs. Kopp traveling behind her husband – when she was involved in a collision with a water truck being driven in the opposite direction.

Around 1:45pm Thursday, September 5th several 911 calls were received regarding a serious collision on North Shore Road in Hamilton parish near the junction with Cottage Hill Road.
It appears that a visitor on a rental scooter collided with a heavy truck in the vicinity of the Dub City Variety store.
CPR was performed at the scene before the injured visitor was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance.

Residents That May Have Outstanding Warrants: Check Before Travel

The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) is aware of situations where persons have been arrested on outstanding court matters at L. F. Wade International Airport causing significant disruption to, or even prevention of, their travel plans.
Any persons intending to travel who may be worried about an outstanding warrant against them are advised to attend Hamilton Police Station at least 48 hours before their date of travel at a time between 8am and 9am Monday to Friday to ensure any court matters are properly finalised in a timely fashion.
Temporary Closure Order Issued to East End Mini Yacht Club

Following the assault of a security officer by a group of men at East End Mini Yacht Club that occurred around 12:30am Saturday, August 24th, the Bermuda Police Service has exercised its authority under the Liquor Licence Act Section 51A to close East End Mini Yacht Club from 7pm Friday, August 30th until 7pm Saturday, August 31st.
The Commodore of the East End Mini Yacht Club, Mrs. Renall Caisey, then voluntarily agreed to keep the club closed until 10pm Saturday, August 31st.
