Second Annual ‘Give A Child A Christmas’ Initiative

Sergeant Sharnita Tankard - Good morning all.

Last year ‘B’ Watch Central decided that they would start an initiative called "Give A Child A Christmas." This idea came about as a direct consequence of the prevailing economic times as we are acutely aware that some families find it difficult during the holiday season to provide the necessities while also ensuring that their child or children have at least one gift to open on Christmas Day.

So, we identified a school in the central area and liaised with the relevant guidance counselor (in this case Ms. Hollis) to nominate two students deemed fit to be recipients of the program.

Once the students were selected we discussed what the particular gifts would be. What makes this even more special is that the gifts are always completely funded from personal and selfless contributions from the members of our Watch and not through solicitations from businesses.

In 2015 we chose two students from Victor Scott Primary and this year both students are from Northlands Primary.

We are only in our second year but we anticipate that this will continue to be an annual event. In participating in this initiative we hope we can have a significant impact on the children in our community as we commit to providing effective, supportive and positive interactions that build strong relationships between the youth and the Bermuda Police Service.

It now gives us great pleasure to present these gifts to W'niy Christopher and Csaiyan Burns-Rankin both in class P1 Steede.

‘B’ Watch Central is: Inspector Kuhn Evans, Sergeant Carl Gibbons, Sergeant Peter Philpott, Sergeant Sharnita Tankard, Acting Sergeant Derek Simmons, Constable Raisa Tuzo, Constable Dinell Bean, Constable Justice McDermot, Constable Ian Scotton, Constable D’Vario Thompson, Constable Nicole Outerbridge, Constable Mervin Homer, Constable Oba Swan, Constable Shawn Maybury, Constable Talitha Simons and Station Duty Officer Donna Simmons.

All incidents are under investigation. Police are appealing to members of the public who have witnessed these incidents or may have information pertaining to them to contact their respective Police Station, Police Headquarters at 295-0011 or the confidential Crimestoppers Hotline on 1 (800) 623-8477.
