Acting Inspector Carl Gibbons - Good afternoon everyone, and thank you for coming. I would just like to take a moment to quickly acknowledge a few persons in attendance prior to this brief presentation. We have Chief Inspector Calvin Smith who is the Officer in Charge of uniform personnel in the East, West and Central areas. Ms. Angela Vincent, the guidance counselor from Victor Scott Primary. Edward Smith, the father of Xy-Unn Simmons; Consellow Ming, the mother of Monét Daniels-Ming; as well as officers from ‘B’ Watch central. (I would also like to acknowledge Sgt. Tankard who could not be here due to being on vacation, who assisted Constables Homer and Outerbridge during this time).
I believe that we can all agree, that during this this time of year approaching the holiday season, it’s genuinely a time to get together with family and sometimes friends, to share happy moments of the year gone by, and even to share thoughts and memories of loved ones passed, but also looking forward to a more successful and prosperous New Year in 2016.
In the spirit of giving and support, officers from ‘B’ Watch Central, decided to sponsor two children, in this instance Xy-Unn and Monét, from the Victor Scott Primary School, who were recognized by their counselor Ms. Vincent, as she felt they were in need of a little support. This came about as a result of Constables Homer and Outerbridge, who while on patrol, thought that it would be a good idea to sponsor a child or two during this time of year.
The officers were in the area of The Victor Scott Primary and decided to go and speak with the principal, who directed them to Ms. Vincent, who supported this initiative, by recognizing a boy and a girl, who she believed were two students worthy of this initiative. This was done after the parents were spoken to and in agreement with what we as a Watch wanted to do.
As a result, and during one of our briefings, Constables Homer and Outerbridge raised and discussed the idea with other members on the Watch, which was agreed to 100% by all. Funds were collected, and PC Homer went as far as to actually take time out while overseas to go shopping. And as we can see by the many wrapped gifts in front of you, he did a tremendous job.
I believe this Christmas initiative is the first of many other initiatives for officers on ‘B’ Watch, because we understand, know and can see (by some of the issues we have to deal with) that some families are in need of support because things are really difficult.
With that being said and without further delay, I would like to ask Chief Inspector Smith to come forward and offer a few words, then Ms. Vincent, then Constables Homer and Outerbridge to present gifts to the children and parent(s).
Happy Holiday Season to all! [Please click on photos to enlarge.] |
