Press Release Commissioner -v- Michael Harkin Judgement

The Chief Justice ruled today on the appeal of Commissioner -v- Michael Harkin. The case involves an appeal against a Human Rights Commission ruling that in 2009 the (then) Commissioner breached former Constable Harkin’s human rights over a delayed promotion, and then non-renewal of contract. Shortly after the ruling, Commissioner of Police Michael DeSilva stated, “I am aware of the decision and I received a copy of the Judgment today. We will carefully review the document and if our processes need to be revised as a result, we will do so.  There are other matters related to this specific case that remain to be resolved and as such it would be premature to comment any further.”
