At 11am tomorrow, Wednesday October 8th as part of Police Week 2014 celebrating 135 years of policing, the Bermuda Police Service will host a Parade of Staff (Past & Present) led by the Bermuda Regiment Band & Corps of Drums through the City of Hamilton.
The route will be from Hamilton Police Station along Court Street on to Front Street, along Front Street to the Bird Cage and up Queen Street, ending at City Hall. The procession will culminate with a historic photo on the steps of City Hall. In addition after the arrival of the procession, the Royal Bahamas Police Force Band will perform two short open air concerts outside City Hall.
This event is designed to:
Say thank you to the men and women (past and present) who have served the Bermuda Police Service over the years and continue to serve.
Recognise the countless officers who have served their entire careers as police officers.
Highlight how many members of the community at some point and time were police officers and now have prominent as well as everyday roles in our community.
Acknowledge the support staff members who work with police officers to ensure that the quality of service to the community is maintained.
Commend the Bermuda Reserve Police officers who volunteer their time to make Bermuda safer.
Promote the endeavours of former and current Police Cadets and the Police Cadet programme.
There will be a slight disruption of traffic along the route, as motorists will only be allowed to use one lane. We do not anticipate the Parade of Staff to take more than 25 minutes and apologise in advance to the motoring public for this temporary inconvenience.
Finally, the public is cordially invited to a Historic Lecture on the Bermuda Police Service tonight by former Chief Inspector Roger Sherratt at T.N. Tatem Middle School from 7pm to 9pm, which promises some interesting insights into how local policing started and evolved to the present day. |
