Police Week 2012 Theme Emphasizes Partnerships

Police Week 2012 is fast approaching! This year’s theme is “Building Partnerships for a Safer Community” and events will take place from Saturday, 6th October to Saturday, 13th October. We encourage the public to join with us and our community partners in celebrating 133 years of service to Bermuda.

The week starts off with the popular Gymkhana on Saturday, 6th October at Police Field from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. followed by an Inter Faith Service at CedarBridge Academy Cafeteria on Sunday, 7th October from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

Monday, 8th October is the Awards Ceremony at CedarBridge Academy’s Ruth Seaton James Auditorium, starting at 5:00 p.m.

Tuesday, 9th October showcases dynamic Police Displays as well as a Seniors’ Tea at Police Field and Prospect Police Recreation Club respectively, starting at 12:00 p.m.

Student winners of the Commissioner for a Day artwork and essay competition get a unique police experience on Wednesday, 10th October at Police Headquarters from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., while the general public is invited to attend open houses at Hamilton, Somerset or Southside police stations. At 7:30pm ‘Beat the Retreat’ will take place along Front Street in the City of Hamilton.

On Thursday, 11th October friendly competition will be on display during the Sports Day at Police Field starting at 9:00 a.m.

In tribute to those who lost their lives whilst serving the Bermuda Police Service, a Memorial Ceremony will take place on Friday, 12th October at 4:00 p.m. in the Military Cemetery off Alexandra Road Devonshire followed by a BBQ at the Prospect Police Recreation Club for ex, former and retired offi­cers.

The culmination of the week is on Saturday, 13th October with the elegant Police Ball at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess’ Gazebo Room. Guests will enjoy cocktails at 6:30 p.m. followed by dinner in the Harbour View Ballroom at 7:30 p.m.
