Man Sentenced to 3 Months Imprisonment for Theft

Yesterday 26 year old Michael Eugene Smith pled guilty in Magistrates’ Court to two counts of theft relating to an April 20th 2010 incident at a Pembroke restaurant. It was revealed in court that Mr. Smith was arrested on suspicion of stealing from two restaurant employees. On Monday he admitted taking items from a purse as well as an I-Pod with earphones from a jacket in the restaurant’s storage room while at the premises as a beverage deliveryman. As a result Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner sentenced the 26 year old to two 3 month prison sentences to run concurrently.

Detective Constable Derrick Golding of the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit stated – “Police officers investigating the thefts became aware of Mr. Smith's apparent involvement in the incident and their vigilance and solid police work led to his subsequent arrest in relation to these offences. In addition, one of the stolen items was recovered.”

All incidents are under investigation. Police are appealing to members of the public who have witnessed these incidents or may have information pertaining to them to contact their respective Police Station, Police Headquarters at 295-0011 or the confidential Crimestoppers Hotline on 1 (800) 623-8477.
