UPDATE: Causeway Bridge, Airport re-opens

From the Government Department of Communication & Information (DCI) - The Emergency Measures Organisation (EMO) is advising the public that the process of reopening the Causeway Bridge is underway, and it is expected that traffic should be able to cross the bridge from 8.30 p.m. onward.

However the Chairman of the EMO and Minister of Labour, Home Affairs and Housing, Sen. the Hon. Lt. Col. David Burch is "strongly urging" motorists particularly those on two wheeled vehicles to proceed with caution when traversing the bridge, as winds in the area remain elevated.

The Causeway will continue to be monitored closely for the next few hours as a precautionary measure.

Minister Burch took this opportunity to thank the public for their cooperation and patience, particularly those who were directly affected by the bridge closure.

Meanwhile, the Department of Airport Operations (DAO) advised that the L.F. Wade International Airport has also reopened.

However the British Airways flight from Gatwick has now been cancelled and it is anticipated that it will arrive tomorrow (Sunday) at 1.00 p.m.  Additionally, the two evening American Airlines flights out of New York and Miami respectively and the Air Canada flight out of Toronto are pending.

The DAO reminded that as airline schedules are subject to change, members of the public are strongly encouraged to contact their respective airlines for the latest flight information.

All incidents are under investigation. Police are appealing to members of the public who have witnessed these incidents or may have information pertaining to them to contact their respective Police Station, Police Headquarters at 295-0011 or the confidential Crimestoppers Hotline on 1 (800) 623-8477.
