UPDATE: Causeway Bridge is re-opened

From the Government Department of Communication & Information (DCI) - The Emergency Measures Organisation (EMO) is advising the public that the Causeway Bridge will open at 7.30 p.m.

However, in the overwhelming interest of public safety, the Chairman of the EMO and Minister of Labour, Home Affairs and Housing, Sen. the Hon. Lt. Col. David Burch is "strongly urging" motorists on two wheeled vehicles, such as cycles, not to traverse the bridge, as winds in the area remain high.

The Causeway will continue to be monitored closely for the next few hours (until around 9.00 p.m.), during the wind's expected gradual downward trend.

Finally, Minister Burch again took this opportunity to thank the public for their cooperation and patience, particularly those who were directly affected by the bridge closure.

All incidents are under investigation. Police are appealing to members of the public who have witnessed these incidents or may have information pertaining to them to contact their respective Police Station, Police Headquarters at 295-0011 or the confidential Crimestoppers Hotline on 1 (800) 623-8477.
