The Bermuda Police Service received a report of the missing crewman – Mr. Angelo Faliva - on Friday, 27th November 2009. A ‘Missing Person’ Report has been initiated. Mr. Faliva is an Italian who worked on a Bermuda Registered Cruise liner - Coral Princess - as a First Cook. The Cruise liner was sailing from Aruba to Cartagena, Colombia between November 25th and 26th 2009. Mr. Faliva was last seen alive by a worker between 6am and 6:30am that morning as the ship neared Cartagena. This time coincides with a passenger who is believed to have sighted a person in the water at the rear of the ship. Statements were recorded from the workman and passenger by Ship Security personnel.
The Bermuda Police Service are the lead Investigators in this matter and had dispatched two officers to meet the ship and agents, an Italian Council General Representative and a family member of Mr. Faliva when the ship reached port on Monday, 7th December.
Our officers will retrieve the original statements, record any additional statements if required, search the missing crew member’s cabin and seize any items of evidential value. We are aware that the crew member had a laptop computer and cellular phone in his cabin. Both items were seized for preliminary examination by Ship Security personnel.
At present, there is no evidence of foul play. A file will be prepared for a Coroner’s Inquest in due course unless there is further evidence to the contrary.
