Fatal RTC

Around 12:45pm today, Police received a report of a serious road traffic collision on Cavendish Road in Pembroke near the junction with Hibiscus Lane. Details about how the collision occurred remain under investigation; however it appears that two motorcycles were traveling in opposite directions when they collided. The rider of one of the motorcycles, a 19 year old Pembroke man, was fatally injured. Inquiries into this incident are ongoing. No further information will be released until the next of kin have been notified.

This marks the 17th road traffic fatality for 2008.

The most road traffic deaths occurred in 1975 when 26 people lost their lives on Bermuda’s roads.

The Bermuda Police Service continues to urge the motoring public to drive with care, caution and courtesy on the island’s roads. Of the 17 fatal collisions so far this year, the majority of the vehicles involved were motorcycles. Other factors involved in fatal collisions generally include speed and driving while impaired by either alcohol or drugs. While the Bermuda Police Service will continue to do our part by enforcing the laws of the road, we continue to encourage all road users to drive & ride responsibly at all times.


All incidents are under investigation. Police are appealing to members of the public who have witnessed these incidents or may have information pertaining to them to contact their respective Police Station, Police Headquarters at 295-0011 or the confidential Crimestoppers Hotline on 1 (800) 623-8477.
