Reported Missing Person: 56-Year-Old Darius Tucker [Updated]

The Bermuda Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in locating fifty-six-year-old Darius Tucker. Mr. Tucker is described as being 5’ 10” in height, of medium build, brown complexioned, with black hair worn in a low cut. Mr. Tucker was last seen around 4:30p.m. on Sunday 6th March, 2022, in the area of Crow Lane, Pembroke. At the time he was driving a white van with licence plate number, IN3074, with a DTS SERVICES logo on the side. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of fifty-six-year-old Darius Tucker, is asked to call 211 or, the main police number, 295-0011. Update: Search continues for 56-Year-Old Darius Tucker.



Drugs Seizure

On Friday 4th March 2022, police executed warrants at a residence on Queen Street in St. George, as well as at a location on King’s Square, in response to reported drug dealing in these areas. During the exercise headed by Inspector Shakisha Minors and Acting Inspector Anthony Smith, a quantity of controlled drugs was seized. The items seized have been sent to the Government Analyst for testing. During the exercise an eighteen-year-old male suspect was arrested for outstanding warrants, as well as possession of bladed weapons. He has since been released on Police bail. Chief Inspector Robert Cardwell of the Tactical Support Division said, "This is an example of what can be achieved when the public works to assist the Bermuda Police Service in making Bermuda safer. Individuals concerned for their community came forward and provided information which enabled us to make these seizures. We would like to thank those members of the public." Investigations into these seizures remain ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call 211, or the main police number 295-0011. Man Arrested for Social Media Threats, Menacing Comments Directed at Premier

This morning, officers from the Criminal Investigation Unit carried out a search at a Hamilton Parish residence, after an investigation was launched into threats and other menacing comments made on social media toward the Premier Hon. David Burt during a live interview. A 34-year-old man has been arrested and detained in relation to this matter. Persons should be mindful that threats, offensive and other menacing acts towards anyone on social media maybe contrary to the Electronic Communications Act 2011, and persons committing such acts if found guilty maybe imprisoned for one year or be fined $25,000.00, or both. No further information on this investigation will be provided at this time.



Man Stabbed in St. George’s on Sunday Remains Hospitalised in ICU

Around 7:25pm on Sunday January 9th 2022, a 56-year-old man attended the Southside Police Station, to report that he had been stabbed in the area of the Scrap Yard, Southside, St. George’s. The victim was transported to KEMH for treatment of his injuries, where he remains in ICU. However, his condition is not known at this time. A short while later, a 58-year-old man was arrested and detained in connection with this incident. Detectives are appealing for any witnesses to this stabbing incident to call the Criminal Investigations Department on 247-1744 or 211 as soon as possible. Drug Seizure & Arrest Made After Traffic Stop

Shortly before 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, 6th January, 2022, police officers attempted to stop a motorcycle rider who failed to stop at a red light at the junction of Burnaby Street and Front Street. The motorcycle rider ignored the officers and a short chase ensued. The rider, a seventeen-year-old male, was eventually stopped without damage or injury and detained. Checks revealed the bike was uninsured, unlicensed and the rider had no valid driver's license. Upon being searched at Hamilton Police Station, the rider was found to be in possession of a number of small plastic twists and numerous sealable baggies containing substances believed to be controlled drugs. As a result, he was arrested for possession of drugs with intent to supply. During a subsequent search of his residence, officers recovered items of drug paraphernalia. All seized items, were submitted for forensic analysis to determine the presence of controlled drugs.



Road Safety Reminder

More than eight thousand dollars in traffic fines issued in just the first week of the new year. Fines were handed out for impaired driving and for speeding offences with speeds ranging from 65KMPH to 85KMPH. Chief Inspector Robert Cardwell of the Bermuda Police Service Tactical Unit remarked, “It’s no secret speed and driving whilst impaired or, a combination of the two, are the biggest contributing factors to road traffic collisions in general and fatal road traffic collisions in general. There were seventeen fatal road traffic collisions in 2021 with the vast majority of them involving excessive speed, impaired driving or a combination of the two." Rider Hurt: Reported Single Vehicle Rental Cycle Crash on North Shore Road

Around 7:00pm on Wednesday 5th January 2022, police and first responders were dispatched to a report of single vehicle road traffic collision on North Shore Road, just east of the Aquarium. A 67 year-old man, who was traveling on a livery cycle, has been transported to hospital for treatment of his injuries, the extent of which is unknown at this time. Traffic is being diverted around the scene using a single lane system. We are advising motorists to use alternative routes until this scene has been cleared.



Witness Appeal: Two Motorcycle Collision in Sandys Parish

The Bermuda Police Service, is once again requesting the public’s assistance with the investigation into a serious two vehicle road traffic collision, which occurred just east of Woody’s Drive in, Sandys, shortly before 7:00 pm on Tuesday 28th December, 2021. At the time, a 54-year-old male motorcycle rider was traveling east on Malabar Road in the vicinity of the Bermuda Coast Guard facility. A 27-year-old male on another motorcycle was traveling in a westerly direction, when they were involved in a collision. Both men were transported to hospital via ambulance, with what were described as serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The 54-year-old has since been airlifted to Boston, for further treatment for injuries which include facial and skull fractures as well as a back injury. The condition of the second victim remains unclear at this time. Investigators are particularly interested in speaking with the occupants of a dark coloured motorcar, which was in the immediate area at the time of the collision. 21 Year Old Man Injured in Mount Hill Road Shooting

Shortly before 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday 29th December 2021, police received a 911 call reporting gun shots heard in the area of Mount Hill Road, Pembroke. Police attended the scene which has now been cordoned off while it is being forensically processed. Early indications are, a twenty-one-year old male sustained a gunshot wound and was transported via private vehicle to King Edward Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment for his injuries. Traffic controls were in place until the scene was forensically processed, which caused delays for area residents trying to get home. The suspect description and direction of travel is as follows: Two men travelling on a motorcycle; both men were wearing dark clothing and helmets with visors. The suspects travelled along Mount Hill, before the pillion passenger discharged a firearm in the direction of the victim, then travelled away from the scene toward Berkeley Road. Anyone who may have scene two men on a motorcycle acting suspiciously in the area, or has information on this incident is asked to call 211, the main police number, 295-0011, or, Crime Stoppers on 800-8477.



Fatal RTA Victim Identified as Dennis Saunders

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the identity of the twenty-six-year-old male who succumbed to injuries sustained in a three vehicle road traffic collision on Palmetto Road, Pembroke, on Saturday, 25th December, 2021, as, Mr. Dennis Saunders. A Family Liaison Officer has been appointed to assist the relatives of Mr. Saunders during this difficult time. The Bermuda Police Service extends sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.



Update on Osagi Bascome Murder Investigation

The Bermuda Police Service can confirm a twenty-four-year-old male has been arrested in relation to the investigation into the murder of Osagi Bascome. Detective Chief Inspector, (DCI), Peter Stableford said, “Our appeal for members of the public to come forward and assist investigators by telling us what they know about this tragic incident, has been somewhat successful. We would like to thank those individuals who responded and provided information. That information has allowed the investigation to progress, resulting in this arrest.” Mr. Stableford stressed, “We are aware there are individuals who accompanied Osagi to that party at “Fun Zone”, who, for whatever reason, are refusing to speak with us. Their unwillingness to co-operate with police is worrying. We urge those individuals to reconsider their position and help provide justice and closure to Osagi’s family.”  Investigators are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who may have recorded footage from the party. Advisory Regarding Viral Social Media Video Involving Two Minors [Updated]

There is a video clip depicting an incident involving two minors, which is being circulated on social media. The video clip has been brought to the attention of the Bermuda Police Service. We ask that should you receive the video clip, you do not share it or forward it on and instead delete from your phone or other electronic devices. Update: The Bermuda Police Service (BPS), can confirm that a formal complaint has been made regarding the video clip highlighting an incident involving two minor aged individuals and the matter is now being looked into. The video has elicited considerable comment from the community, some of which is concerning. There is also now being circulated, a screenshot of a statement supposedly written by one of the minors involved which appears to be having the same impact. The BPS urges members of the public not to let their emotions get the better of them and commit any acts that could result in prosecution. We again advise that should you receive the video clip in question, or the screenshot of the statement, you do not forward it on and instead delete it from your electronic devices.



Man Stabbed Sunday on South Road, Southampton Remains Hospitalised

Around 4pm Sunday, 5th December a reported stabbing occurred on South Road in Southampton. Apparently, a 29-year-old local man was attempting to attend Sunday afternoon’s football match at Southampton Rangers Sports Club when two men assaulted him, as he walked along a sidewalk on South Road, Southampton, outside the club grounds. It is understood that the 29 year old sustained several stab wounds but managed to make it to the entrance of Southampton Rangers, where security personnel assisted him, until the arrival of EMTs. He was then transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for further treatment of serious injuries – and at last check, he remained hospitalised. Detectives are appealing for any witnesses to this stabbing incident to call the Criminal Investigations Department on 247-1744 or 211 as soon as possible. Local Man Arrested in Connection With Alleged Social Media Scam

Acting Assistant Commissioner Nicholas Pedro – The Financial Crime Unit has arrested a 35-year-old man, as a result of an alleged fraudulent investment scheme operated over a well-known social media site.  The local man, who cannot be named was arrested earlier today, following allegations from several complainants, who stated that they had been approached via an Instagram account, asking for “investment of $1,000 to be converted into $10,000 within ten minutes.” Detective Chief Inspector Sherwin Joseph who heads up the Specialist Investigations Department stated: “We continue to see an uptick in cyber frauds and we are asking the community to remain vigilant. Be suspicious, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Avoid online communication with unknown persons. Do not give out your personal banking information online. If your social media accounts have been compromised, alert your friends and family as soon as possible because your compromised accounts can be used to aid in defrauding them.” If you think you may have fallen victim to this scheme, or other similar schemes, please contact Detective Inspector Paul Ridley at 247-1375, or call 211 & report same.



Man Shot & Injured in North Hamilton: Investigation Underway

A 27-year-old-man is currently warded at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, (KEMH), receiving attention for gunshot wounds sustained in an early morning shooting incident. About 1:15 am today, Monday 29th November, 2021, police responded to a report of gunshots heard in the area of Dundonald Street and Court Street, Pembroke. Initial investigations revealed that a firearm had been discharged and the scene was forensically processed. A short time later, a 27-year-old man attended KEMH for treatment of a gunshot injury, which is not considered to be life threatening. It is now confirmed the two incidents are connected. Detective Chief Inspector, Peter Stableford of the Bermuda Police Service, Serious Crime Unit, said, “If you were in the Court Street area around the time of this incident, or you may have information about it, we are appealing for you to please get in contact with us. Whomever is responsible, had to get ready somewhere and you could have information vital to the investigation. We are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who would have seen two persons on a motorcycle who rode along Dundonald Street around 1:15 this morning. We urge anyone out driving a vehicle with a dashboard camera or who lives in the area and may have CCTV recordings, to check their footage from between 1:00 am and 1:30 am today. Advisory Regarding Recent Phone Scam

The Bermuda Police Service Crime Unit and the 211 call centre, have recently been receiving numerous reports from seniors, who say they are being contacted via phone by an individual identifying themselves as a representative of One Communications Limited and requesting personal information.  Acting Detective Inspector, Clifford Roberts, of the Criminal Investigation Unit Specialist Investigations Crime Division, explained, “The senior is then asked to sign into their electronic device (laptop, iPad) allowing the caller access to conduct a supposed virus security check. Once the unsuspecting senior does so, the scammer is able to gain access to the victim’s personal information, including their banking information; eventually transferring monies from the victim’s bank account to an overseas account. In one instance, tens of thousands of dollars.”  Should you be contacted by someone claiming to be from One Communications suggesting your electronic device may have been compromised by a virus and they are calling to assist with the problem, you are advised to immediately end the conversation.  Do not provide your personal information. If possible, record the caller’s number and immediately report it to police by calling, 211 or make a report online.



Man Shot & Injured on Court Street: Investigation Underway

Shortly before midnight on Saturday 20th, November 2021, police responded to a report of gunshots heard in the area of Jamaican Grill on Court Street in Pembroke. Initial investigations revealed that a firearm had been discharged in the area and the scene was forensically processed. A short time later, a 30 year old man with a gunshot wound was transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment of his injuries, which are not considered to be life threatening. He was treated then later discharged. It is confirmed that the two incidents are connected. The Bermuda Police Service would like to encourage anyone who may have been in the Court Street area at the time of the incident, drove through the area with a dash camera between 11:30 pm Saturday and 12:30 am Sunday or anyone who may have information about this incident, to get in touch. Operation Crux: Two Arrested Regarding Illegally Sold Pharmaceuticals

Police today conducted a joint operation dubbed, “Operation CRUX”. The exercise included members of the police Drugs Unit, Police Support Unit, and Pharmacy Inspectors attached to the Ministry of Health. Two persons have been arrested and a quantity of “APETAMIN”, in both liquid and tablet form was seized after police executed search warrants at two business places in the City of Hamilton. Several products containing CBD were also seized. APETAMIN contains Cyproheptadine, which is banned in several countries, and has numerous harmful side effects, including dizziness, tremors, blurred vision and liver failure. Detective Chief Inspector, Sherwin Joseph, of the Specialist Investigation Department stated “Cyproheptadine is listed in Schedule 3, and Part II of Schedule 4 of the Pharmacy and Poisons and Act 1979. It can only be sold or be kept for sale, by a licensed pharmacist. Business owners should make themselves very familiar with the contents of the Pharmacy and Poisons Act 1979, which is designed to protect the health and well-being of the public. They can also consult with the Pharmacy Inspector’s office, to ensure that their business operations are in compliance with the act. Mr. Joseph commended Detective Inspector (Ag), Nidol Barker and his Drug Unit, for their work in conjunction with the Pharmacy Inspectors, to prevent uncontrolled access to these items which pose a serious health risk to individuals. No further information on the investigation will be provided at this time.



Sixteenth Road Fatality for 2021: Albert Simmons

The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) can now confirm the death of 64-year-old Albert Simmons – Bermuda’s 16th road fatality for 2021 – and extends sincere condolences to his family and friends. Mr. Simmons, understood to be a Warwick resident, was seriously hurt when the motorcycle he was riding east along Middle Road, Southampton crashed into a wall near the junction with Lighthouse Road around 6pm Sunday, 14th November. The crash caused Mr. Simmons to be thrown from the motorcycle into Jew’s Bay. He was pulled from the water by members of the public who then began CPR until the arrival of EMTs, who continued performing CPR at the scene. However, despite these lifesaving efforts, which continued as Mr. Simmons was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance, sadly the 64-year-old later succumbed to his injuries. A BPS Family Liaison Officer has been assigned to help support Mr. Simmons’ family at this difficult time. The investigation continues regarding the circumstances of this latest fatal crash and the cooperation of those witnesses who have already come forward is greatly appreciated.
