Attempted Theft

Saturday, March 20,2010

On Wednesday 17th March 2010, Police received a report of an attempted theft. A 13 year old boy from Smith’s Parish was allegedly assaulted by a young man in the vicinity of the ferry terminal in the City of Hamilton as he exited a bus. The suspect was unsuccessful in obtaining any property before fleeing. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to contact the Hamilton Police Station on 295-0011.



Pursuit/Damage Only RTC

Saturday, March 20,2010

At 2pm on Thursday, Police were conducting speed checks on Middle Road in Devonshire when a man on a motorcycle was observed traveling through the area at an excessive speed. As a result a pursuit took place through parts of Devonshire and Pembroke before the rider, a 17 year old Pembroke man, was apprehended behind Devonshire Preschool. Police also impounded the motorcycle. At one point during the pursuit, the fleeing motorcycle was traveling west on Berry Hill Road (near the hospital’s overflow parking area) when it collided with a SUV traveling in the opposite direction; however the motorcycle kept going. Inquiries into the matter are ongoing.



Arrests & Court Appearance

Officers from the Eastern Criminal Investigation Unit have arrested two 25 year old males on suspicion of possessing a significant quantity of controlled drugs, which were packaged for sale. The two males, one from Pembroke and one from Warwick, were stopped and searched under the new PACE legislation, after having been seen behaving suspiciously on Middle Road, Warwick Thursday night (March 18th). When the motorcycle they were riding was searched, the suspected controlled drugs were found under the seat of the motorcycle. Both males were arrested and are presently helping Police with their enquiries at Southside Police Station.



Missing Person – Martin Molinski

Police are appealing for anyone who can help locate 27 year old Martin Molinski  who was last seen at his residence at #1 Long Lane Pembroke, between 8pm and 9pm on Wednesday March 17th, after being out with his friends. Molinski did not show up for work this morning (Thursday), so his friends went to his residence to check on him and he was not located at the residence.



Confirmed Firearm Incident in Pembroke

Around 5:15pm today, Police received a report of gunshots in the Curving Avenue, Pembroke area. Police attended the scene a short time later and conducted a thorough search of the vicinity. Forensic evidence found suggested that a firearm had been discharged; however no one reported being injured. Officers are currently maintaining a Police presence in area. An investigation into this matter is underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information to contact the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit on 295-0011 or the independent 24 hour confidential Crime Stoppers Bermuda hotline on 800-8477.



Town Hall Meeting for Eastern Parishes Well Attended

Last night (Tuesday, March 16th) at the Francis Patton Primary School, the Eastern Area Command hosted a town hall meeting. The purpose of the town hall meeting was to introduce the Community Action Team (CAT) officers to their community formally and to allow public feedback and discussion by residents on policing initiatives while emphasizing Police working in partnership with the community as outlined in the Policing Plan 2010.



Sudden Deaths of Peter Mitchell & Shawn Woolridge

The autopsy of 55 year old Peter Mitchell is now complete and the forensic pathologist has determined that his death is not suspicious. Therefore there is no further Police action required. The Bermuda Police Service again extends sincere condolences to the Mitchell family on the untimely passing of their loved one. Shooting at Bermuda College

Around 1:40am today, Police received a report of gunshots at Bermuda College in Paget. It appears that during a function at the premises, a physical altercation took place between several young men. The victim, a 16 year old young man from Warwick, received a gunshot wound to the upper body and an injury to his head (not gunshot related). The teenager subsequently attended KEMH and received treatment for his injuries. He was later released. A car on the premises was also damaged; it is believed the two incidents may be linked. An investigation into these matters is underway.



Town Hall Meeting for the Eastern Parishes

The second in a series of town hall meetings for 2010 will take place at Francis Patton Primary School on Tuesday, March 16th starting at 7pm. Residents of the eastern parishes (Smith’s parish, Hamilton parish & St. George’s) are invited to attend this forum to discuss the state of affairs in the area for the past six months and to hear the attending Police officers present the policing initiatives for the next six months. Representing the Bermuda Police Service at Tuesday’s meeting will be Eastern Area Commander Chief Inspector Tracy Adams.



Sudden Death – Alshante Brangman

The autopsy of 23 year old Alshante Brangman is now complete and the forensic pathologist has determined that her death is not suspicious. As a result, the 28 year old Sandys parish man that was in Police custody assisting with inquiries into the matter has been formally released. Therefore there is no further Police action required. The Bermuda Police Service again extends sincere condolences to the Brangman family on the untimely passing of their loved one.

Around 10:40am today, Police received a report of a sudden death in the Verdmont Valley Close, Smith's parish area. Officers attended the scene a short time later. The body of the victim, believed to be a 38 year old Smith's parish man, was pronounced dead by an on call physician at the scene at 12:05pm. It appears that the body had been there for some time before being discovered by a member of the public. No further information will be released until the next of kin have been notified.



Update - Sudden Death

The investigation into the circumstances of 23 year old Alshante Brangman’s death is ongoing by detectives from the Serious Crime Unit. A 28 year old Sandys parish man remains in custody assisting Police with their inquiries. Whilst there is a person in custody, the investigation and any subsequent conclusion(s) as to the cause(s) of her death will be predicated on the evidence in the matter. The Bermuda Police Service is currently awaiting the forensic pathologist’s report.

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 23 year old Alshante Brangman of Devonshire. A few minutes after 8 this morning (Tuesday) first responders attended a residence in Devonshire with a 23 year old woman needing medical attention. The 23 year old Devonshire woman was taken to KEMH via ambulance where she was pronounced dead at 8:29am Tuesday by an on call physician. An investigation has commenced and is being coordinated by officers from the Serious Crime Unit. The Bermuda Police Service extends sincere condolences to the family & friends of Ms. Brangman.



Sunday Weather Advisory

From the Government Department of Communication & Information (DCI) - The Bermuda Weather Service (BWS) issued a severe weather advisory this early morning as it is expected that Bermuda will experience unsettled weather conditions throughout the day. According to the BWS gale conditions are likely this morning through this evening with the potential of gusts reaching storm force. As the day progresses, the public can expect to experience hurricane gusts of up to 65 knots in some instances.



Injury RTC

Around 8:50am today, a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury occurred on St. John’s Road in Pembroke near the junction with Berkeley Road involving a car and a pedestrian. It appears that the victim, a 14 year old young man from Sandys parish, was crossing the pedestrian crossing by the bus stop on St. John’s Road as a car had already stopped to let the teenager across. However another car traveling west on St. John’s Road collided with the Berkeley Institute student and continued westward without stopping. The victim was taken to KEMH and treated for an injury to his right knee. Inquiries into this incident are underway.



Response to Reported Middle Terrace Shooting

Around 9:30pm on Friday, February 19th 2010 Police received a report of gunshots in the Middle Terrace, Pembroke area. Officers attended the scene a short time later and conducted a search of the area; they also spoke with area residents. However, there was no physical evidence of a shooting found and no credible information at the time to confirm that a firearm incident had taken place.



Recruit Foundation Course #72 Charity Fundraiser

The Bermuda Police Service Recruit Foundation Course (RFC) #72 is holding a car wash and bake sale on Saturday, February 27th 2010 at the Paget Shell Service Station on Middle Road, Paget from 8am – 4pm. All funds raised will be donated to the Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital. Every Recruit Foundation Course raises money for the charity of their choice. This year the Police recruits of RFC #72 have chosen the Sexual Assault Response Team (SART).

Response to Collision at Somerset Bridge

The Bermuda Police Service would like to apologise to the motoring public that were inconvenienced due to the serious road traffic collision that occurred in the area of Somerset Bridge around 4:40pm Monday. The traffic delay was the unfortunate result of a ‘perfect storm’ of circumstances – the timing of the collision coincided with the evening rush hour and the location of the collision near Somerset Bridge produced a bottleneck that could not be re-routed. The victim’s injuries were first reported as life threatening, and as such a full investigation was commenced that included a forensic examination of the scene.
