Confirmed Firearm Incident in the Spanish Point Area

Around 11:25am on Wednesday, Police responded to a confirmed firearm incident in the Spanish Point Road, Pembroke area. It appears that a firearm was discharged at a 22 year old Pembroke man. The Pembroke man managed to flee the scene on foot uninjured. The suspects, two men on a motorcycle, made good their escape.

Burch - Thank you for joining me this afternoon to witness the hand over to the Bermuda Regiment of this Arctic 24 foot rigid inflatable boat with two Yamaha 200 horse power outboard engines.
The boat is being donated by the Bermuda Police Service with a spare inflatable collar and other spare parts, valued at approximately $50,000.

Around 4:45pm on Friday, Police responded to a reported robbery that took place in the Transport Control Department (TCD) parking lot in Pembroke. It appears that a security guard was accosted by an unknown man who took a bag containing a quantity of cash and attempted to make good his escape. The suspect was apprehended and the surrounding area was searched by Police to locate the bag and its contents. Inquiries into this incident are ongoing. Sudden Death

Around 11:10am on Thursday, Police responded to a report of a sudden death at a Wreck Road, Sandys parish residence. The lifeless body of a 39 year old Sandys parish man was found inside the home. Inquiries into this incident are underway. No further information will be released until the next of kin has been notified.

Around 2:40pm on Tuesday, Police responded to a confirmed firearm incident in the Fentons Drive, Pembroke area. Forensic evidence found suggested that a firearm had been discharged; however no one has reported being injured. An active investigation into this incident is underway.
Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information to contact the Serious Crime Unit on 295-0011. An anonymous call can also be made to the independent, confidential Crime Stoppers Bermuda hotline at 800-8477.

A post mortem was carried out on the body of Ms. Olympia Corrent this morning by a certified physician who reported that death was as a result of natural causes.
Update - Arrest of Airline Passenger

About 6:30 p.m. on Friday 5th November 2010, a Thomson Airways flight from Manchester, England to the Dominican Republic with 278 passengers and nine crew onboard, diverted to Bermuda as a result of a disruptive female passenger. The passenger was said to have been involved in a loud argument with her husband and later became abusive to other passengers and crew who were trying to calm her down. Efforts were made to restrain her, during which she is alleged to have assaulted a crew member. She was eventually restrained by crew and passengers for the remainder of the flight.

Around 7:45am on Tuesday, Police recovered a handgun in the Cobbs Hill Road, Paget area. It has been forensically recovered and will be examined against all outstanding crime scenes. An active investigation into this incident is underway.
Sudden Death of Olympia Marie Corrent

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 64 year old Olympia Marie Corrent. Ms. Corrent’s lifeless body was initially found by family members around 12:15pm on Saturday at a Victoria Street, Pembroke residence and Police officers subsequently attended the scene. An autopsy is anticipated in due course. The Bermuda Police Service extends condolences to the family & friends of the deceased.
Arrest of Airline Passenger

Around 6:30pm on Friday, Police responded to a report of an unruly passenger onboard a diverted commercial aircraft at the L. F. Wade International Airport. The alleged unruly passenger, a 45 year old U. K. woman, was arrested as a result. The plane which originated from Manchester U. K. subsequently continued on its journey to the Dominican Republic. Inquiries into this matter are ongoing by Police, airport officials and Bermuda Immigration.

Around 4:15pm on Friday, Police and first responders attended a reported single vehicle road traffic collision resulting in injury on North Shore Road in Devonshire in the vicinity of Loyal Hill. Details about the collision involving a Police car are unclear at this time; however the driver, a female officer, sustained a leg injury. She was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Detective Chief Inspector Nicholas Pedro, Officer In Charge of the Serious Crime Unit – The Bermuda Police Service would again like to acknowledge the sentence of the courts today in the matter regarding Mr. Alvone Maybury. Mr. Maybury was unanimously convicted by a jury of discharging a firearm in a busy city street, in the lead up to Christmas last year.

Around 10am on Thursday, Police responded to a report of a disturbance on North Shore Road in Devonshire in the vicinity of Loyal Hill Pass. Details about what occurred are unclear at this time; however it is alleged that the victim, a 43 year old Sandys parish man, was discovered attempting to burglarize an area home. The Sandys parish man was apparently injured by members of the public as he tried to flee the scene on foot and has been taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Detective Chief Inspector Nicholas Pedro, Officer In Charge of the Serious Crime Unit – Detectives in the Serious Crime Unit are actively investigating the shooting of a 19 year old male who had disembarked a public bus that made a stop at the White Hill Field at 6:30pm Monday. The bus had been travelling towards the City of Hamilton.
The victim sustained injuries which are believed to be non-life threatening. He is currently in treatment at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

Detective Chief Inspector Nicholas Pedro, Officer in Charge of the Serious Crime Unit - The Bermuda Police Service would like to acknowledge the significant sentence handed down today in the Supreme Court regarding Mr. Anthony Swan. Mr. Swan was convicted of firing multiple shots at persons with a firearm at a busy location on Court Street, Hamilton on 16th December, 2009. Fortunately, no members of the public were harmed during this incident, which clearly traumatized many members of our community.

As promised, the Bermuda Police Service (BPS), supported by the Bermuda Reserve Police were out in large numbers during the course of the Halloween weekend. Although the weekend was busy, the number of Halloween-related disorder incidents was notably less than anticipated making this one of the quietest Halloween events in many years.
