Update – Jahmiko Leshore Murder Investigation

Detective Chief Inspector Nicholas Pedro - The investigation into the murder of Jahmiko Leshore continues. To date, 5 persons have been arrested. In addition to the three persons initially arrested, two females aged 21 & 22 respectively have been arrested for Conspiracy to Commit Murder. As is often with such cases, the persons arrested have been released on Police bail to allow the investigative team to continue to develop evidence in the case, and to receive the results of forensic tests on exhibits sent overseas.



Two Plead Guilty To Money Laundering

This morning (7th March 2011) in the Supreme Court of Bermuda, Roger Vincent Cox, a 38 year old Air Conditioning Engineer from St. George’s, pleaded guilty to three offences of Money Laundering. The offences to which he pleaded guilty were identified during the course of a 3 year investigation conducted by members of the Bermuda Police Service Financial Crime Unit. The Court certified that Cox had benefitted from ‘criminal conduct’ in the amount of $2,287,856.91. A Confiscation / Forfeiture order was made in the sum of $1,474,613.82.



Runner Collides With Stationary Police Motorcycle

Around 9:45am on Sunday, a 26 year old Devonshire man running in the Lindo’s to Lindo’s 10K road race collided with a stationary Police motorcycle that was assisting with traffic control at the junction of Brighton Hill and Watlington Road East in Devonshire. Despite the mishap the runner, apparently uninjured, went on to win the race. Subsequent inquiries with the runner’s family regarding his welfare confirmed that the Devonshire man was all right. The Police motorcycle was not damaged.



1st Fatal Road Traffic Collision For 2011

Around 9:30pm on Saturday, Police attended a reported serious road traffic collision on Harbour Road in Paget near the junction with Cobbs Hill Road involving a car and a motorcycle. The Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service also attended the scene. It appears that both vehicles were traveling along Harbour Road when they collided.

Fatal Shooting in Devonshire

The Bermuda Police Service can confirm that a 26 year old man was fatally shot in the Boundary Crescent, Devonshire area tonight. No further information will be released until the next of kin have been notified. An active investigation into this incident is underway. Any witnesses or anyone with any information is urged to contact the Serious Crime Unit on 295-0011 or the independent, confidential Crime Stoppers Bermuda hotline on 800-8477.

Bermudian Arrested Overseas on Drug Charges

The Bermuda Police Service can confirm the arrest of a 30 year old Warwick resident by U.S. Customs Border Patrol on his arrival at the Miami International Airport on 12th February, 2011. He was in transit to Bermuda from Panama at the time of his arrest and was found to have approximately 1 kilo of the controlled drug cocaine in his possession which was concealed in a laptop computer. He is currently being held in custody by U.S. Authorities pending court proceedings.



Launch of Western Parishes Neighbourhood Watch

At 2pm on Sunday, February 20th 2011 the launch of the latest Neighbourhood Watch group took place at the Pompano Beach Club in Southampton. Around 15 area residents gathered for the first meeting; mostly from the Pompano Beach Road, Southampton area but also from the Spring Benny Road, Sandys parish area. [Click on photo to enlarge].



Injury RTC in Devonshire

Around 4:20pm on Friday, February 18th 2011 Police responded to a report of a road traffic collision that took place at the junction of Middle Road and Chaingate Hill in Devonshire. At this time it appears that a car and a motorcycle collided. As a result the motorcyclist has been taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital with head injuries. Currently his condition is unknown. As an extreme measure of caution officers from the Traffic Collision Investigation Unit are on scene and we are asking for the public’s indulgence as they conduct their inquiries.



Former Police Officer Turns 102!

Milton Murray Marsh [pictured with current Commissioner of Police Michael DeSilva, see video] was born in Charlestown, Nevis, in the British West Indies on 17th February 1909. He was raised between Charlestown and Basseterre, St. Kitts, and his father, Arthur Alexander Marsh was a police officer, so perhaps law enforcement was in his blood. After leaving school Milton worked for a time in a hardware store in Basseterre and he then became Assistant to the Head Store Man in the Works Department (similar to the old Public Works Department in Bermuda).



Arrests Made in Colford Ferguson Murder Investigation

Detectives continue to make progress in the investigation of the murder of Mr. Colford Ferguson. We are interested in speaking with a man dressed in black or dark clothing that was standing in the bus lay by opposite the scene of the shooting. This person was seen to dive behind the wall when the shooting took place.Detectives are also interested in speaking to persons that may have seen a group of persons riding three motorcycles at speed, east on Port Royal stretch near the fire station at about 2:10pm on Friday 4th February 2011. One of these cycles was believed to be orange in colour.



Theft of ‘Villa Monticello, Bermuda’ Painting

At 2pm on Tuesday, February 8th 2011 Police received a report of a theft from a Deepwood Drive, Pembroke residence. It appears that sometime between 10am and 12 noon that day, a painting was removed from the home. The painting is called ‘Villa Monticello, Bermuda’ by the artist Eleanor Abrams and measures 18 inches by 15 inches.

Detective Chief Inspector Nicholas Pedro, Officer In Charge of the Serious Crime Unit - The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 29 year old Mr. Colford Ferguson. Mr. Ferguson was a single man who lived in Warwick Parish, and leaves behind a four year old daughter to grieve his passing. The Bermuda Police Service is closely assisting Mr. Ferguson’s family to get through this difficult time. Our thoughts are with Mr. Ferguson’s family and friends.



Update - Fatal Shooting in Somerset

As a result of the shooting death of the 29 year old Warwick man that took place today, a full investigation has commenced by the Serious Crime Unit of the Bermuda Police Service and there has been some information that has come to light. Police have received information of persons circulating a picture of the deceased at the scene in a blood drenched shirt.



Fatal Shooting in Somerset

Around 2pm on Friday, Police responded to a confirmed firearm incident in the area of Somerset Road and East Shore Road in Sandys parish. A 29 year old Warwick man was shot and subsequently died as a result of his injuries. No further information will be released until the next of kin has been notified. An active investigation into this incident is underway. The area has been cordoned off and traffic delays are anticipated in the area of Somerset Post Office & Somerset Country Squire until further notice.



Bermuda Police Service Acquires Pre-Owned BMW Police Car

The Bermuda Police Service is pleased to announce that we have taken advantage of an opportunity to buy four pre-owned police vehicles from the United Kingdom. The Service has taken delivery of one BMW motorcar; a second BMW and two Audi cars are expected to arrive later this month or early February. [Click on the photo to enlarge].



Police Negotiators Talk Man Off Roof

Police and other first responders attended an incident at Mid-Atlantic Wellness Institute a few minutes after 5 on Saturday evening. It appears that a patient made his way onto the roof and was threatening to do harm to himself. As a result police negotiators were called to the scene and began a very detailed process of talking with the patient. As a result the man was brought off the roof and inside without injury to himself or anyone else.



Court Appearance for Alleged Armed Burglar

17 year old Leo Burgess of Sandys parish appeared in Magistrates’ Court on Monday, January 24th 2011 to face charges of aggravated burglary and possession or handling of a firearm with persons not before the court regarding an armed burglary that occurred at a Southampton residence on Monday, December 6th 2010. The charges are indictable and must be heard in the Supreme Court; therefore Mr. Burgess was not required to plea. He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to reappear before the court on Monday, February 7th 2011.
