Southside Police Station Community Awareness Day

The Southside Police Station will hold an open house on Friday the 9th of December 2011 from 9am – 4:30pm. This event is open to all members of the public and will provide crime prevention advice as well as interactive displays. Light refreshments will be served.

As we prepare ourselves for the joy of giving and exchanging gifts, let us not forget that criminals are also anxiously awaiting this time of year – as people tend to get distracted and let their guard down. As a result, they become vulnerable to theft and other holiday crime.



Missing Juvenile: Leshun Wolffe

The Bermuda Police Service is appealing for the public’s assistance in locating 16 year old Leshun Wolffe. The teenager was last seen on Thursday, December 1st and is described as dark skinned, 5’9” tall of slim build with a short haircut. He reportedly walks with a limp and is known to frequent the Sandys parish area, in particular Somerset and Dockyard.



Update: Ninth Road Fatality For 2011

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 38 year old Dion Richardson of Warwick. It appears that sometime prior to 1:55am Monday, December 5th Mr. Richardson was riding a motorcycle along North Shore Road in Devonshire when a collision occurred with the round-a-bout at the junction of Barkers Hill and Palmetto Road. Mr. Richardson was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance in an unresponsive state and subsequently pronounced dead at 2:26am by an on call physician.



Ninth Road Fatality For 2011

Around 1:55am on Monday, December 5th police and first responders attended a fatal single vehicle road traffic collision in the North Shore Road, Barkers Hill Devonshire area. Details about how the collision occurred are unclear at this time; however the victim, a 38 year old Hamilton parish man, succumbed to injuries he sustained after the motorcycle he was riding apparently collided with the round-a-bout. No further information will be given until the next of kin have been notified.



Centre for Justice Forum: Stop & Search Powers

On Wednesday, November 30th 2011 the Centre for Justice held a forum on police stop & search powers at St. Paul's Centennial Hall in Pembroke from 6 - 8pm. Panelists that discussed the topic were: the Minister of National Security Wayne Perinchief, Acting Commissioner of Police Mike Jackman, lawyers Mr. Peter Martin and Mr. Larry Mussenden, CURB (Citizens Uprooting Racism in Bermuda) Chairman Mr. Cordell Riley and Mr. Carlton Simmons from Youth on the Move. Driver Arrested After Car Collides With 4 Year Old Girl

A 68 year old Smith’s parish woman has been arrested after the car she was driving collided with a pedestrian in the Frog Lane, Devonshire area around 6pm on Thursday December 1st. In addition, the vehicle involved has been impounded by police. The victim, a four year old Southampton girl was treated at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for relatively minor injuries and later released. Inquiries into this matter are ongoing.



Road Closure

On Sunday December 4th, the Ministry of Public Works will be closing the out bound lane of Crow Lane to traffic in order to carry out paving works. This will affect the areas between Spurling Hill and Lane Hill exiting the City of Hamilton from 7am – 7pm. Upon completion of the paving and road markings, the road will be re-opened.



Response to Royal Gazette Article on Alleged Front Street Prostitutes

Acting Commissioner of Police Mike Jackman - In relation to the allegations being leveled in today’s Royal Gazette (Wednesday, November 30th edition), the Bermuda Police Service has not received any reports from members of the public about being approached by females offering sexual favours. Our police officers regularly and proactively patrol in the areas where there is night time economy, in particular throughout the Front Street area.



Eighth Road Fatality For 2011

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 41 year old Alexander Monk of Hamilton parish. Around 7:15am on Thursday November 24th, Mr. Monk was seriously injured when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a bus on Middle Road in Southampton in the vicinity of Five Star Island. Mr. Monk sustained head injuries and was transported via ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he was subsequently pronounced dead by an on call physician.



Christmas Parade Traffic Advisory

The annual Christmas Parade will take place on Sunday 27th November 2011 from 5pm until approximately 8pm in the City of Hamilton. The parade will proceed along the following route: From Par-La-Ville Road car park, exiting left onto Church Street, left onto Par-La-Ville Road, along Par-La-Ville Road to Front Street, left onto Front Street, then left onto Court Street and left along Church Street.



Shooting in Southampton, No Injuries Reported

Around 11pm on Saturday, November 26th police responded to a report of gunshots in the Railway Trail, Southampton area. Forensic evidence found suggested that a firearm had been discharged; however no one has reported being injured. Inquiries into this incident are ongoing. Any witnesses or anyone with any information is encouraged to contact the main police number 295-0011 or the independent, confidential Crime Stoppers hotline at 800-8477.



Motorcycle & Truck Collide Near Paget Traffic Lights

Around 3pm on Friday, November 25th police and first responders attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury near the junction of Middle Road and South Road in Paget involving a motorcycle and a truck. It appears that both vehicles were traveling along South Road when they collided in the vicinity of the Paget traffic lights. The rider of the motorcycle, a 21 year old Warwick man, sustained arm and leg injuries and was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment. His injuries are not considered life threatening. The driver of the truck, a 52 year old Devonshire man, was not injured. Inquiries into this incident are ongoing.



Update: Bus Collides With Utility Pole, No Injuries Reported

Around 3:30pm Thursday, November 24th police responded to a report of a single vehicle damage only collision on North Shore Road in Devonshire near the junction with Cable Hill involving a bus and a utility pole. There were no reported injuries. Traffic was diverted at the junction of North Shore Road and Barkers Hill, Devonshire as well as the junction of North Shore Road and Store Hill, Smith’s parish as a result. That section of road was subsequently re-opened. Inquiries into this incident are ongoing.

Around 3:30pm Thursday, November 24th police responded to a report of a single vehicle damage only collision in the North Shore Road, Devonshire area where a bus collided with a utility pole. Traffic is being diverted at the junction of North Shore Road and Barkers Hill, Devonshire as well as the junction of North Shore Road and Store Hill, Smith’s parish as a result. Inquiries into this incident are underway.



Serious Collision in Southampton

Around 7:15am Thursday, November 24th police received a report of a serious road traffic collision on Middle Road in Southampton in the vicinity of Five Star Island involving a motorcycle and a bus. The motorcycle rider sustained a head injury and was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance. Traffic was diverted away from the area while collision investigators examined the scene; however that section of road is now open and traffic is flowing normally. Inquiries are ongoing.



Firearm Seized, American Man Arrested At Bermuda Airport

On Tuesday, November 22nd an American citizen was arrested at the L. F. Wade International Airport for firearm possession. He remains in police custody pending the review of a file by the DPP. At this time the Bermuda Police Service is not releasing any additional information.



BPS Host Strategic Firearms Commander Course

Department of Communication & Information - The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) is currently delivering a Strategic Firearms Commander (Gold) Course at the Police Training Centre, Prospect. The course, which is running from 21-25 November 2011, is designed primarily to meet the needs of officers of Chief Inspector rank and above whose current roles and responsibilities include strategic command and management of spontaneous firearms incidents and authorized firearms operations.



Drugs & Prohibited Weapons Seized, Men Arrested in Southampton

On Saturday, 19th November, 2011 officers representing various departments and units of the Bermuda Police Service including the Public Protection Department, Serious Crime and Drug Units combined to execute a warrant at a residence on Middle Road, Southampton. This warrant resulted in the seizure of prohibited weapons, a large quantity of the controlled drug cannabis as well as cocaine and cannabis resin prepared for distribution. A significant quantity of cash in various currencies was additionally seized and is currently being held under the provisions of Section 50 of the Proceeds of Crime Act.



Two Arrests After Happy Valley Road Attempted Burglary

About 11.45am Tuesday, November 22nd police received a report of three men attempting to break and enter a residence located on Happy Valley Road in Pembroke Parish. On arrival at the scene police officers received information that the men were armed with what appeared to be a firearm and one of the suspects threatened persons in the area by pointing the weapon. No entry was gained inside the residence.
