At 11:50am on Saturday, Police attended a report of shoplifting at A. S. Cooper's on Front Street in the City of Hamilton. On arrival officers spoke with the complainant who stated that earlier a man entered the store and took a brown suede & leather ladies handbag before fleeing the premises on foot. The man was pursued by staff; however, he was able to make good his escape by getting in a green taxi parked in the area which sped off. At 2:20pm Police were able to locate the suspect, a 42 year old St. George's man, on Ballast Point Road in St. George's. He was arrested, taken to Hamilton Police Station and detained. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
