Bermuda Police Service Acquires Pre-Owned BMW Police Car
|
The Bermuda Police Service is pleased to announce that we have taken advantage of an opportunity to buy four pre-owned police vehicles from the United Kingdom. The Service has taken delivery of one BMW motorcar; a second BMW and two Audi cars are expected to arrive later this month or early February. [Click on the photo to enlarge]. The Bermuda Police Service negotiated the transfer with West Midlands Police through our Assistant Commissioner, David Mirfield, who retired from West Midlands. The cars were purchased at a total cost of ₤20,000 ($31,000) and will be used as armed response vehicles. Similar cars purchased new would run in excess of $75,000 each. BMW and Audi are two of the preferred auto manufacturers used by British police as the vehicles are safer and more durable for carrying heavy equipment. The cars will carry police markings, lights and sirens in the normal manner, so the public will have no difficulty in spotting them. |
All incidents are under investigation. Police are appealing to members of the public who have witnessed these incidents or may have information pertaining to them to contact their respective Police Station, Police Headquarters at 295-0011 or the confidential Crimestoppers Hotline on 1 (800) 623-8477.
